THREE ANGELS—ONE FINAL CALL TO THE WORLD

John the Revelator, exiled on Patmos, sees angels in flight—messengers bearing the most urgent warnings Heaven has ever sent. These are not literal angels, but symbolic of God’s last-day movement—those who preach with a loud voice the everlasting gospel. “I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth” (Revelation 14:6). This is the same gospel that saves sinners, strengthens saints, and glorifies the Savior. Yet this message is not ordinary. It’s global, urgent, and timed. “The hour of His judgment is come” (v. 7). This is not a future warning—it is present truth. Sr. White writes, “The message of Revelation 14 is the message that we are to give to the world. It is present truth.” (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 38). The first angel calls us to worship the Creator. The second warns of Babylon’s fall. The third delivers a solemn appeal: avoid the mark of the beast. This is the final courtroom scene before probation closes.

THE HOUR OF JUDGMENT—NOT LATER, BUT NOW!

Many Christians believe judgment comes after death or after Christ returns. But the first angel says it is now. “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God” (1 Peter 4:17). This is the investigative judgment—the very work Jesus began in 1844, as shown in Daniel 8:14. It is not to condemn the repentant, but to reveal who truly trusts in the Lamb. In contrast to fear-based religion, this judgment is a call to reverence, not terror. “Fear God, and give glory to Him.” Sr. White affirms, “In the judgment the use made of every talent will be scrutinized.” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 342). Every word, every motive, every choice passes before the courts of Heaven. But Christ is both our Advocate and Judge.

BABYLON FALLS—THE SYSTEM THAT FAKED FAITH

The second angel declares, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen” (Revelation 14:8). Babylon here symbolizes the confederacy of false religion—confused theology mixed with political power. It includes churches that once taught truth but now promote man-made traditions over God’s Word. Its “wine” is doctrine that intoxicates, deceives, and corrupts. This is a sharp contrast to the everlasting gospel. Sr. White warns, “Babylon is said to be ‘the mother of harlots.’ By her daughters must be symbolized churches that cling to her doctrines and traditions.” (The Great Controversy, p. 382). Babylon confuses grace with license, worship with entertainment, and truth with tradition. The fall is spiritual, and the warning is clear: Come out of her, My people (Revelation 18:4).

THE MARK OF THE BEAST—CHOICE UNDER PRESSURE

The third angel’s message is the most fearful warning in Scripture. “If any man worship the beast and his image… the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God” (Revelation 14:9–10). The beast represents Papal Rome. The image is a union of church and state enforcing religious observance. The mark? Sunday sacredness—man’s counterfeit to God’s seventh-day Sabbath. In contrast to the seal of God, which is placed in the forehead of the obedient, the mark is accepted by those who yield to pressure. Sr. White states, “The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath… the mark of the beast is the opposite of this.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 8, p. 117). This isn’t just about a day—it’s about authority. Who do I obey when the test comes?

GOD’S LOVE—URGENT, UNCOMPROMISING, UNFAILING

These messages may sound severe—but they are born of infinite mercy. God would not warn if He didn’t want to save. Every cry from the three angels is Heaven’s plea: “Please, return before it’s too late.” “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten” (Revelation 3:19). Sr. White reminds us, “The Lord does not desire the destruction of any. His judgments are a strange act.” (The Faith I Live By, p. 339). True love warns. Real mercy calls loudly. If the judgment is now, my accountability is now. “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12). My duty is not only to avoid the mark, but to reflect the image of Jesus in character and conduct. Sr. White counsels, “We are to stand as representatives of Christ in the earth.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 122). It’s not just about what I avoid—it’s about who I become. This message must not stay in pulpits or pews—it must go to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. I must warn my friends, my coworkers, my family. I must teach the Sabbath, explain the beast, exalt the Lamb. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Sr. White urges, “Thousands upon thousands… must be warned. Soon the world will stand aghast at the fearful scenes of the judgment.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9, p. 40). I must not whisper when angels shout.

THE ANGELS ARE FLYING—ARE WE LISTENING?

Revelation 14 is the final appeal. It is the last message of mercy before Jesus returns. It draws a clear line: God’s commandments or man’s decrees, the seal of God or the mark of the beast. This is not theory—it is destiny. The angels are in flight. The world is on the brink. This is not just prophecy. This is purpose. The three angels’ messages are not optional—they are life and death. God calls, warns, invites, and equips. Soon, the harvest of the earth will be reaped (Revelation 14:14). I must be found faithful—not only hearing the messages, but living them and giving them. The judgment has come. The call is clear. Now is the time to decide.
