THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN UNDER SIEGE!

The kingdom of heaven, a realm of peace and eternal life, is not won by passive acceptance, but by a fierce, unrelenting struggle. Jesus declares, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matthew 11:12, KJV). This violence is not physical, but a spiritual war against the forces of darkness and our own sinful nature. We are called to “fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life” (1 Timothy 6:12, KJV), a battle that demands our full commitment and unwavering perseverance. The path to salvation is not a gentle stroll through a garden, but a rigorous march through enemy territory, requiring every ounce of our spiritual strength. (Steps to Christ, p. 208)

THE WARRIOR’S MINDSET: HOW TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!

The battleground for this conflict is not external, but within the depths of our hearts, where self-will clashes with divine love. Paul instructs, “And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully” (2 Timothy 2:5, KJV). This means adhering to the divine rules of engagement: unwavering faith, obedience, and perseverance. We must strive lawfully, according to God’s word, and not rely on our own strength or human devices. When fiery trials come, as they did upon God’s people in times past—”and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment” (Hebrews 11:36, KJV)—it is endurance that crowns the faithful. Those who “came out of great tribulation” (Revelation 7:14, KJV) did so because they clung to the promises of God, refusing to let go, trusting in the power of their savior. THE SECRET WEAPON: OVERCOMING BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB!

Victory in this spiritual warfare is not won by human strength, but through the divine power of Christ’s sacrifice. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death”¹ (Revelation 12:11, KJV). Christ’s blood grants us the power to prevail against the enemy. We can not be forced to sin, for “By faith and prayer all may meet the requirements of the gospel. No man can be forced to transgress. His own consent must first be gained” (The Great Controversy, p. 610). The battle is not merely to resist sin but to embrace righteousness, choosing surrender over rebellion, trust over doubt, and love over self. Our choice is our weapon.

WHAT IS OUR POSITION IN THE FACE OF TRIALS?

Paul presents the unshakable confidence of the believer: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans 8:35, KJV). We are not abandoned in battle; Christ Himself leads the charge. In these times, “All who in that evil day would fearlessly serve God according to the dictates of conscience, will need courage, firmness, and a knowledge of God and His word” (The Great Controversy, p. 593). No hardship can sever the believer from divine love. Like Christ in Gethsemane, we must resolve, “Not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39, KJV), following the Lamb whithersoever He goeth (Revelation 14:4, KJV). We must trust in his plan.

THE GLORIOUS REWARD: A CROWN AND A NEW NAME!

The battlefield leads to the throne room. “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer… be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10, KJV). To the overcomers, Christ Himself places a crown and inscribes a new name—a symbol of eternal transformation. “Upon the heads of the overcomers, Jesus with His own right hand places the crown of glory. For each, there is a crown, bearing his own ‘new name,’ and the inscription, ‘Holiness to the Lord’” (The Great Controversy, p. 650). This reward is not merely a symbol, but a tangible representation of our victory and faithfulness.

THE FINAL PROMISE: AN ETERNAL HOME WITH GOD!

God’s children have never been at home in this world, for “they confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13, KJV). The faithful receive an inheritance beyond imagination: “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.³ And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Revelation 21:3-4, KJV). “In this life we can only begin to understand the wonderful theme of redemption… through the eternal ages, new truth will continually unfold to the wondering and delighted mind” (The Great Controversy, p. 651). Heaven is not merely a reward but a relationship—an eternity of deepening communion with the Almighty. We will be home.

HOW DOES THIS REVEAL GOD’S LOVE?

This battle is evidence of divine love, for God does not force victory upon us but empowers us to choose it. “God never leads His children otherwise than they would choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 479). The struggle refines, and the victory secures our place in His eternal presence. God’s love is shown in allowing us to choose, and in empowering us to make the correct choice. His love is not overbearing, but a gentle guiding hand.

If the battle is fought on the field of the heart, then my duty is surrender. “Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work” (Steps to Christ, p. 70). Daily yielding aligns my will with His, ensuring victory through divine strength. My responsibility is to continually surrender my will, allowing God to work through me. This means constant prayer, study of His word, and a willingness to follow His guidance, even when it is difficult.

As soldiers of Christ, we fight not just for ourselves but for others. “Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 143). Love is our strategy, and service our battlefield. We must mingle with those around us, showing them the love of Christ through our actions and words. We are called to be a light in the darkness, sharing the good news of salvation and offering help to those in need. We are to show the world the love that Christ has shown us.

THE FINAL CHARGE: HOLD THE LINE!

This is the battle of all battles—the war for the soul. Stand firm. Fight on. Victory is assured to those who endure. The crown awaits! We are not alone in this fight, for Christ Himself is our captain, and He has promised to be with us always. Let us press on, trusting in His strength and relying on His promises. The kingdom of heaven is not a gift passively received, but a prize actively won. The battle is fierce, but the reward is eternal. By surrendering to God’s will, relying on Christ’s strength, and loving our neighbors, we can overcome every obstacle and claim our place in His kingdom. Let us fight the good fight of faith, knowing that victory is assured to those who persevere.
