SATAN: DECEPTIVE FURY!

Ecclesiastes 10:10 “If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.”

 ABSTRACT

This article examines the persistent challenge of spiritual deception from ancient witchcraft in biblical history to Satan’s sophisticated end-time strategies, including false miracles, impersonations of Christ, and counterfeit healings designed to mislead humanity away from God’s truth, while stressing the vital need for us to anchor ourselves in Scripture and the guidance of Ellen G. White to discern and resist these perils, ensuring we remain faithful amid the intensifying battle between good and evil.

REBELLIONI: ORIGIN OF EVIL

The issue of witchcraft and spiritual deception has been a challenge for God’s people throughout history. From the times of the Israelites to the present day, individuals have fallen into practices that directly oppose God’s commandments. One of the reasons the Israelites had to wait before possessing the promised land was that God’s judgment on the Canaanites had not yet been fully executed (Genesis 15:16). Among the many abominable practices of the Canaanites was witchcraft, which God explicitly warned the Israelites to avoid once they entered the land (Deuteronomy 18:9-14). Scripture reveals how God issues stern warnings against such abominations to protect His people from destruction. God commands separation from these evils, as Leviticus 19:31 declares, “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.” Micah 5:12 further promises divine intervention, stating, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Ellen G. White explains the danger clearly, noting that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin. How successful has been his work!” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She also warns that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived, who desire to shun the self-denial and sacrifice demanded by the truth; but it is impossible for him to hold under his power one soul who honestly desires, at whatever cost, to know the truth” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). As God’s people today, we face similar challenges with modern spiritual deceptions that mirror the practices of ancient times. What dangers arise when we ignore these divine cautions in our daily lives?

HISTORIC SPIRITUAL DECEPTIONS

The Bible records that God’s people were warned repeatedly about engaging in practices like witchcraft and consulting with familiar spirits. For example, in Leviticus 20:26-27, God instructed the Israelites to avoid wizards, familiar spirits, and witchcraft, warning that those who engaged in these practices would be cut off from His people. Despite this, such practices persisted in both the Old and New Testaments. King Saul, after outlawing witchcraft in Israel, violated his own laws by consulting a medium on the night before his death (1 Samuel 28:3, 7-20). This transgression was so severe that God declared it as one of the key reasons for Saul’s downfall (1 Chronicles 10:13). Similar practices continued in the New Testament era, as evidenced by Simon the sorcerer, who misunderstood the work of God and sought to use His power for personal gain (Acts 8:18-24). God demonstrates His intolerance for these sins through direct consequences on those who defy Him. Jeremiah 27:9 urges obedience, proclaiming, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” 1 Samuel 15:23 equates rebellion to these evils, asserting, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” Sr. White highlights the ongoing threat, stating that “Satan’s craft is most successfully used against those who are depressed. When discouragement threatens to overwhelm the soul, it is the time to trust in the Lord” (Prophets and Kings, p. 210, 1917). She further observes that “Satan is working with all his art and enchantments to keep men marching blindly onward until the Lord arises out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity” (Acts of the Apostles, p. 266, 1911). Clearly, these examples show us the peril of straying from God’s commands. How do these ancient warnings apply to the subtle deceptions we encounter in contemporary society?

In modern times, spiritual deception has taken different forms but remains just as dangerous. Spiritualistic practices such as fortune-telling, clairvoyance, and séances are prevalent and accepted by many, even though these are merely modern adaptations of ancient practices. Ellen G. White notes that the same deceptions employed by Satan in biblical times are still being used today under the guise of “modern spiritualism.” In her writings, White emphasizes that Satan continues to deceive by appearing as departed friends to gain control over the minds of people. As she explains, “The ancient system of magic is, in reality, the same as that which is now known as modern Spiritualism” (Sketches from the Life of Paul, p. 138). This warning highlights the persistent nature of these deceptions and their continuing threat to God’s people. Satan adapts his methods to ensnare the unwary in every era. 2 Timothy 3:13 exposes this progression, warning, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Ephesians 4:14 advises vigilance, stating, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White describes the subtlety, affirming that “The most sorrowful thought of all is that under his deceptive influence men will have a form of godliness, without having a real connection with God” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). She adds that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). These insights remind us to stay alert against evolving threats. What role do genuine miracles play in countering these false practices?

These ancient practices are not relics of the past but continue to manifest in new forms today. As in times past, God’s people are called to remain vigilant against the dangers of spiritual deception. In contrast to the false wonders and miracles promoted by sorcery, God’s work is confirmed through genuine miracles and signs performed by the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:43; Hebrews 2:4). The miracles performed in the early Christian church served as evidence of God’s power, authenticating His message and guiding His people toward the truth. The Holy Spirit empowers true manifestations to affirm divine authority. 1 John 4:1 instructs discernment, commanding, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” Revelation 20:3 foretells ultimate victory, describing how God will cast Satan “into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Sr. White underscores the contrast, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus. It will seem to be the voice of the dead that we hear giving us counsel or warning” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She also emphasizes protection, writing that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures. They must understand the state of the dead; for the spirits of devils will yet appear to them, professing to be beloved friends and relatives” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). As we face modern spiritual challenges, we must heed these biblical warnings and remain committed to the truth of God’s Word. How will these deceptions intensify as we near the end times?

The ancient practices of witchcraft and spiritual deception are still alive in today’s world, albeit in different forms. Just as God warned the Israelites to avoid these practices, He continues to warn His people today. The Bible, along with Ellen G. White’s writings, provides clear guidance on the dangers of witchcraft and spiritualism, reminding us of the importance of remaining faithful to God’s commandments. The call to perfection and spiritual purity is as relevant now as it was in biblical times, and through Christ, we are empowered to overcome these deceptions and stand firm in our faith. Christ equips us with strength to triumph over evil influences. Revelation 12:9 identifies the deceiver, revealing, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” 1 Timothy 4:1 predicts future perils, stating, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Sr. White affirms the urgency, declaring that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin. How successful has been his work!” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She further cautions that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). As we reflect on the dangers of witchcraft and modern-day spiritualism, it is essential to understand how God confirms His work and leads His people through signs and wonders, providing evidence of His power and authority (Acts 2:43, Hebrews 2:4). What warnings does Scripture offer about deceptive miracles in our time?

DECEPTIVE MIRACLES IN END TIMES

Throughout history, God has used miracles to confirm the legitimacy of His work and the messengers He sent. Acts 2:43, 5:12, and 6:8 recount how these signs and wonders inspired faith among us. Hebrews 2:4 reminds us that God Himself “bore witness with signs and wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit.” Yet, as seen in John 4:48, even during Jesus’ time, people often demanded more miraculous signs as proof. This need for signs is not limited to the past but continues today. People still look for miraculous evidence, a desire that will ultimately lead many into Satan’s deception (Revelation 18:23). Miracles, if taken as the primary measure of faith, can deceive even the elect, as Satan can imitate the very miracles that God performs (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 52). God authenticates His message through true signs while Satan counters with counterfeits. Matthew 7:21-23 exposes false claims, where Jesus declares, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Mark 13:22 alerts us to dangers, warning, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White reveals the risk, stating that “Satan’s craft is most successfully used against those who are depressed” (Prophets and Kings, p. 210, 1917). She also notes that “Satan is working with all his art and enchantments to keep men marching blindly onward until the Lord arises out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity” (Acts of the Apostles, p. 266, 1911). Yet, as seen in John 4:48, even during Jesus’ time, people often demanded more miraculous signs as proof. How real is the threat of false miracles as we approach the close of time?

The danger of being led astray by false miracles is real and increasingly relevant as we approach the end times. Revelation 13:11-17 describes how the United States will employ miracles to convince people to receive the mark of the beast. In combination, spiritualism, apostate Protestantism, and the papacy will unite in a worldwide effort to deceive people through miracles (Revelation 16:12-16). As Ellen White warns, “Fanaticism will appear in the very midst of us. Deceptions will come, and of such a character that if it were possible, they would mislead the very elect” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 95). Paul’s letter to the Galatians highlights that even those who consider themselves part of the community can be bewitched into following errors, underlining that sorcery and deception are not limited to pagan practices but include any cherished sin or falsehood (Galatians 3:1). Satan employs global forces to ensnare souls through these illusions. 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 unveils the lawless one, explaining, “And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Revelation 19:20 describes judgment, stating, “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.” Sr. White stresses the peril, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She adds that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). As seen in ancient and modern times, Satan uses these deceptions to mislead souls. What internal compromises open the door to these spiritual dangers?

These spiritual dangers are not only external but often begin with internal compromises. The Ephesians, for instance, were guilty of practicing magic and witchcraft, allowing Satan to hold them in bondage until they repented by destroying their magical books (The Signs of the Times, May 18, 1882, p. 19). This is a clear example that any cherished sin or vice can act as a form of sorcery, blinding the conscience and leading individuals to self-deception. Ellen White warns that “those who venture to cherish the sin which they love best are tampering with Satan’s sorcery” (The Signs of the Times, May 18, 1882, p. 21). It is crucial, then, for us to recognize the pervasive influence of evil, whether through blatant witchcraft or more subtle forms of idolatry, such as materialism, fame, or lust (The Signs of the Times, May 18, 1882, p. 20). The only way to break free from these spiritual entrapments is through genuine repentance and by allowing Christ to cleanse the heart of cherished sins. Christ breaks the chains of sin when we turn to Him in repentance. Matthew 24:11 foretells widespread deceit, saying, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” 1 Timothy 4:1 reiterates, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Sr. White illustrates the bondage, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She emphasizes discernment, writing that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). The only way to break free from these spiritual entrapments is through genuine repentance and by allowing Christ to cleanse the heart of cherished sins. How do worldly amusements contribute to inviting these temptations?

Moreover, the allure of worldly entertainment and intellectual pride also plays a role in inviting Satan’s temptations. Many in the community place themselves on enchanted ground by frequenting theaters, dances, or engaging in worldly amusements where “Satan is there, conducting the play as the master-actor” (The Signs of the Times, May 18, 1882, p. 23). This environment fosters forgetfulness of God, and those who indulge in it are often unaware of the spiritual danger they face. Revelation 18:8 and Isaiah 47:9-15 make clear that those deceived in these days will meet their end in destruction. The Bible warns that the ultimate fate of those who succumb to these deceptions is found in Revelation 21:8 and 22:15, where eternal separation from God is the consequence. Satan exploits these settings to erode our connection with God. Jeremiah 27:9 commands avoidance, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 promises eradication, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White warns of the snare, stating that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She describes the lure, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). The Bible warns that the ultimate fate of those who succumb to these deceptions is found in Revelation 21:8 and 22:15, where eternal separation from God is the consequence. What methods will Satan employ in his final campaign of deceit?

As we approach the final deception, it is essential to remember that Satan’s methods are vast and complex. The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald describes how “through generation after generation, from age to age, Satan has gathered human agencies through whom to work out his diabolical purposes” (April 14, 1896, p. 5). By imitating divine attributes and drawing worship away from God, Satan establishes his throne between man and the Creator, ensuring that many will be led astray. In light of this, we must remain vigilant, grounded in the truth of God’s Word, and continually guard against the deceptive miracles that Satan will use to solidify his final campaign of deceit. Satan assembles forces across time to advance his evil agenda. 2 Timothy 3:13 depicts escalation, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Ephesians 4:14 calls for stability, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White exposes the strategy, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She reveals the scope, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). In light of this, we must remain vigilant, grounded in the truth of God’s Word, and continually guard against the deceptive miracles that Satan will use to solidify his final campaign of deceit. How does Satan consolidate his power in the greatest deception of history?

It becomes evident that Satan’s ultimate strategy is to create the most sophisticated and all-encompassing deception in human history. This final act of deception will consolidate the forces of evil in an unprecedented way, combining spiritualism, false miracles, and the power of the state to enforce Satan’s will on earth. Satan unites dark powers to achieve his climactic rebellion. 1 John 4:1 demands testing, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” Revelation 20:3 anticipates confinement, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Sr. White unveils the plan, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She stresses preparation, writing that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). This final act of deception will consolidate the forces of evil in an unprecedented way, combining spiritualism, false miracles, and the power of the state to enforce Satan’s will on earth. What drives Satan’s increasing wrath in these last days?

SATAN’S GRAND DECEPTION

In these last days, Satan’s grand deception unfolds through a network of evil agencies that span generations, aiming to deceive humanity and enforce his plans. From the beginning, Satan has sought to dethrone God and exalt himself. He charges God with satanic attributes while claiming divine attributes as his own. This deception will intensify as evil angels, appearing as men, will seek to seduce humanity from their allegiance to God. As Scripture warns, “For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24). The Bible repeatedly emphasizes that deception will play a key role in Satan’s strategy. Satan orchestrates his schemes to usurp God’s place in human hearts. Matthew 7:21-23 distinguishes true from false, where Christ says, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Mark 13:22 highlights seduction, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White describes the conflict, stating that “Satan is working with all his art and enchantments to keep men marching blindly onward until the Lord arises out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity” (Acts of the Apostles, p. 266, 1911). She warns of the intensity, noting that “Satan’s craft is most successfully used against those who are depressed” (Prophets and Kings, p. 210, 1917). The Bible repeatedly emphasizes that deception will play a key role in Satan’s strategy. How does historical evidence illustrate Satan’s influence over humanity?

The evidence of Satan’s influence is clear in the events surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Men, imbued with a satanic spirit, chose Barabbas over Christ, illustrating how evil angels controlled human actions. Ellen G. White wrote, “Legions of evil angels controlled the priests and rulers, and gave voice to the suggestions of Satan in persuading and tempting the people” (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, April 14, 1896:8). This historic event demonstrates the power Satan wields over humanity when they yield to his influence. Evil angels work to mislead and manipulate human hearts, as seen in the crucifixion, where they led people to reject the Son of God in favor of a murderer. Satan’s power over the minds of men will continue to manifest in greater ways as we near the end of time. Evil angels manipulate events to turn hearts against God. 2 Thessalonians 2:9 reveals the mechanism, “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Jeremiah 27:9 advises against heeding false voices, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Sr. White exposes the control, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She illustrates the danger, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Satan’s power over the minds of men will continue to manifest in greater ways as we near the end of time. How will Satan and his angels appear to deceive us in the future?

As time progresses, Satan and his angels will increasingly take on human form to deceive God’s people. Ellen G. White warns, “Satan will use every opportunity to seduce men from their allegiance to God. He and the angels who fell with him will appear on the earth as men, seeking to deceive” (Last Day Events, p. 160:2). These evil beings will enter the church, spread unbelief, and mingle with us to undermine the truth. Their objective is to deceive through manipulation and falsehoods. Not only will these evil angels interact with the living, but they will also impersonate the dead, appearing as departed loved ones to lead people astray. This manipulation of human sympathies has proven to be one of Satan’s most effective tools. White describes it as “Satan’s most successful and fascinating delusion” (Signs of the Times, August 26, 1889). By pretending to be deceased friends and relatives, evil angels gain trust, leading individuals to rely more on these false apparitions than on the Word of God. Satan deploys impersonations to erode faith in divine truth. 1 John 4:1 calls for testing, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” Revelation 20:3 envisions restraint, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Sr. White cautions against apparitions, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She urges readiness, writing that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). By pretending to be deceased friends and relatives, evil angels gain trust, leading individuals to rely more on these false apparitions than on the Word of God. What safeguards can we use against these supernatural deceptions?

To prepare for this deception, we must be grounded in biblical truth. Ellen G. White counsels, “We must be prepared to withstand them with the Bible truth that the dead know not anything” (Great Controversy, p. 560:1). This principle protects against the deceptive manifestations of evil angels. As supernatural events and miracles become more common, many will fall victim to these displays of power. Satan will exploit every opportunity to deceive the world, including using miraculous signs to reinforce false claims. White emphasizes, “Fearful sights of a supernatural character will soon be revealed in the heavens” (Great Controversy, p. 624:1). These wonders will serve to unite the rulers and subjects of the world in Satan’s final rebellion against God. Scripture serves as our shield against false wonders. Micah 5:12 declares removal, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” 2 Timothy 3:13 forewarns worsening, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Sr. White stresses biblical foundation, stating that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She highlights the allure, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). These wonders will serve to unite the rulers and subjects of the world in Satan’s final rebellion against God. How will the deception peak as we near the end?

As we near the end, the deception will intensify, and Satan will work to convince the world that he is the true Christ. It is imperative for us to stay vigilant and rooted in the Word of God, for only through truth can we withstand the greatest deception of all. Satan escalates his efforts to claim divine worship. Ephesians 4:14 promotes maturity, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Revelation 12:9 names the adversary, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Sr. White warns of the climax, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She describes the deception, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). It is imperative for us to stay vigilant and rooted in the Word of God, for only through truth can we withstand the greatest deception of all. What specific tactics will Satan use to impersonate Christ in the final conflict?

FALSE MIRACLES AND IMPERSONATIONS

As we approach the final days of earth’s history, Satan will intensify his deceptions by performing false miracles and impersonating Christ. According to Ellen G. White, “Fearful sights of a supernatural character will soon be revealed in the heavens, in token of the power of miracle-working demons” (The Great Controversy, p. 624:1). These supernatural events will deceive the world, drawing people away from God. Those who have not fortified their minds with biblical truth will be vulnerable to these deceptive signs, as Satan uses every means possible to unite the world in rebellion against the government of heaven. Satan unleashes supernatural displays to captivate and mislead the masses. 2 Thessalonians 2:9 details the signs, “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Matthew 7:22-23 questions authenticity, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Sr. White reveals the source, noting that “Satan is working with all his art and enchantments to keep men marching blindly onward until the Lord arises out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity” (Acts of the Apostles, p. 266, 1911). She cautions the vulnerability, stating that “Satan’s craft is most successfully used against those who are depressed” (Prophets and Kings, p. 210, 1917). Those who have not fortified their minds with biblical truth will be vulnerable to these deceptive signs, as Satan uses every means possible to unite the world in rebellion against the government of heaven. Who masterminds these miracles, and how do they serve Satan’s plan?

Satan is the mastermind behind these miracles, and his agents will perform many wonders to deceive people. Ellen G. White warns, “We must not trust the claims of men…just behind them stands the great deceiver” (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 49:3). Satan will empower his followers to heal the sick, not through God’s power but by removing the afflictions he himself has caused. This strategic manipulation convinces many that these healings are divine. However, White explains that these manifestations are part of a larger plan to lead people into disobedience to God’s law, thus aligning them with Satan’s cause (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 49:5). These false miracles will play a central role in Satan’s plan to lead the world into deception. Satan directs his followers to execute wonders that mimic divine acts. Mark 13:22 warns of seduction, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” 1 Timothy 4:1 foresees departure, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Sr. White exposes the tactic, writing that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She emphasizes truth’s role, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). These false miracles will play a central role in Satan’s plan to lead the world into deception. How does Satan manipulate the natural world to further his deceptions?

In addition to performing false healings, Satan will also manipulate the natural world, including the atmosphere, to further his plans. Ellen G. White describes how “Satan is working in the atmosphere; he is poisoning the atmosphere, and here we are dependent upon God for our lives” (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 52:1). This disruption of the natural environment will lead many to question their faith and rely on miraculous signs instead of God’s Word. As storms, tempests, and other natural disasters occur more frequently, Satan will use these events to convince the world that he has control over nature and life itself. Only those who are “wholly devoted, wholly converted, wholly consecrated to God” will be able to discern the true source of these phenomena and remain faithful to the Lord. Satan poisons elements to sow doubt and promote reliance on his signs. Jeremiah 27:9 rejects false guides, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 assures elimination, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White warns of environmental control, noting that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She describes the conviction, stating that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). Only those who are “wholly devoted, wholly converted, wholly consecrated to God” will be able to discern the true source of these phenomena and remain faithful to the Lord. What boundaries limit Satan’s power in performing miracles?

The miracles performed by Satan and his agents will be more than mere illusions. White states, “So far as his power extends, he will perform actual miracles” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 698:1). These events will deceive many because they are not simply tricks; they are real displays of power within the limits of Satan’s abilities. However, there is a boundary beyond which Satan cannot go, and where his power ends, he relies on deception to complete his work. The Bible warns that Satan will even attempt to impersonate Christ Himself, coming in such a way that he will appear to be the world’s Redeemer. But White clarifies that while his appearance may be convincing, “it will deceive none but those who…are seeking to resist the truth” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 698:1). Satan exercises limited power to produce genuine-seeming wonders. 2 Thessalonians 2:11 explains delusion, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” Revelation 19:20 condemns the deceiver, “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.” Sr. White limits the scope, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She clarifies the intent, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). The Bible warns that Satan will even attempt to impersonate Christ Himself, coming in such a way that he will appear to be the world’s Redeemer. How will Satan act as a false healer in the final conflict?

As the final conflict intensifies, Satan will take on the role of a great medical missionary, performing acts of healing and calling down fire from heaven to prove his divine power. Ellen G. White cautions that “Satan will come in to deceive if possible the very elect…He will cause fire to come down from heaven in the sight of men to prove that he is God” (Medical Ministry, pp. 87-88). These acts are designed to imitate the miracles of Christ and mislead the world into worshiping Satan as if he were the true Savior. To withstand these deceptions, White emphasizes the need to stand “barricaded by the truths of the Bible” (Medical Ministry, p. 88). Satan imitates Christ’s ministry to gain false worship. Matthew 24:11 predicts many deceivers, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” 1 John 4:1 urges testing, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” Sr. White alerts to the imitation, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She calls for fortification, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). To withstand these deceptions, White emphasizes the need to stand “barricaded by the truths of the Bible” (Medical Ministry, p. 88). What ultimate plan does Satan pursue in his final deception on earth?

THE FINAL DECEPTION UNVEILED

The Bible warns of a final deception that will unfold upon this sin-cursed earth, orchestrated by Satan himself. According to 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and his agents as ministers of righteousness. This big deception is Satan’s ultimate attempt to lead humanity away from God’s truth by impersonating Christ. Ellen G. White expands on this, noting that as Satan’s time grows short, his wrath intensifies, and his work of deception will climax during the time of trouble (The Great Controversy, p. 623). This article explores how Satan plans to deceive the world in the last days and the tactics he will use to draw people away from God. Satan orchestrates the ultimate imposture to divert loyalty from God. Revelation 20:3 foresees his binding, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” 2 Timothy 3:13 predicts increasing deceit, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Sr. White describes the wrath, stating that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She warns of the climax, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This article explores how Satan plans to deceive the world in the last days and the tactics he will use to draw people away from God. What motivates Satan’s fury as the end draws near?

Satan’s increasing wrath as the end draws near is driven by his awareness of his impending defeat. As Revelation 12:12 warns, the devil has come down to the earth in great wrath, knowing his time is short. Ellen G. White describes this moment as Satan’s desperate final effort to perpetuate sin. Satan has long sought to gain control over humanity by leading them to reject Christ and bow to idols (Review and Herald, April 14, 1896). During Christ’s time on earth, Satan led the people to choose Barabbas over Jesus, and as history nears its end, the same deception will take place. People will be seduced to reject the truth once more, and Satan will appear as a counterfeit Christ. White explains that Satan will personate Jesus, working miracles, healing diseases, and proclaiming that he has changed the Sabbath to Sunday (The Great Controversy, pp. 624-625). Through these acts, Satan will deceive the world into believing he is Christ, leading them into further rebellion against God’s law. Satan accelerates his efforts knowing his doom approaches. Jeremiah 27:9 rejects false counsel, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 vows destruction, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White portrays the desperation, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She details the impersonation, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Through these acts, Satan will deceive the world into believing he is Christ, leading them into further rebellion against God’s law. How does Satan’s impersonation of Christ bewilder the masses?

Satan’s plan to personate Christ is designed to bewilder and deceive the masses. Ellen G. White describes how Satan, in a dazzling display of majesty, will appear as a being resembling Christ as depicted in Revelation 1:13-15. His voice will be soft, subdued, yet full of melody, as he presents some of the same truths Christ once taught (The Great Controversy, p. 624). However, his ultimate goal is to turn people away from God’s law. By claiming to have changed the Sabbath to Sunday, Satan will declare that those who keep the seventh day holy are blaspheming his name (The Great Controversy, p. 625). In doing so, he will attempt to turn people away from the law of God, further deceiving the world into lawlessness. White warns that Satan’s deception will be so convincing that, if it were possible, even the very elect would be deceived (Fundamentals of Christian Education, pp. 471-472). His influence will extend to world leaders, causing them to embrace his false theories and bow to his authority. Satan mimics Christ’s appearance and teachings to subvert divine law. Matthew 7:21-23 separates genuine from false, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Mark 13:22 signals caution, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White depicts the display, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She warns of the conviction, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). His influence will extend to world leaders, causing them to embrace his false theories and bow to his authority. What demand will Satan make in his desperate final effort?

In his desperate final effort, Satan will not only personate Christ but will also demand worship from all, claiming to be Christ. Ellen G. White emphasizes that Satan will command the faithful to worship him as Christ (6 SDA Bible Commentary, p. 1106). The world will fall down in worship, believing that their prayers for Christ’s return have been answered. Satan’s strategy is to make it appear that Christ has come, using this powerful delusion to deceive those who have rejected the truth. However, White assures that the true followers of Christ will not be deceived, for they know the signs of Christ’s true second coming, which will be accompanied by ten thousand times ten thousand angels (6 SDA Bible Commentary, p. 1106). This grand deception, though overwhelming, is part of Satan’s final desperate effort to secure the world before his ultimate defeat. Satan commands adoration to seal his rebellion. 1 Timothy 4:1 foretells apostasy, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” 2 Thessalonians 2:11 describes the consequence, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” Sr. White assures discernment, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She affirms resistance, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This grand deception, though overwhelming, is part of Satan’s final desperate effort to secure the world before his ultimate defeat. What happens after this final act of deception?

After this final act of deception, the law of God will be fully made void, as fallen angels and evil men form confederations to rebel against God’s holy commandments. As rebellion reaches its peak, Satan, disguised as an angel of light, will be exalted and deified by humanity. However, God’s judgment will soon be pronounced upon these apostate forces, marking the end of Satan’s rule (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 62). Fallen angels ally with humans to defy divine law completely. Revelation 20:3 promises containment, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 encourages firmness, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White predicts the voiding, stating that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She foresees judgment, noting that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). However, God’s judgment will soon be pronounced upon these apostate forces, marking the end of Satan’s rule (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 62). How does Satan disguise himself in the final deception on this sin-cursed earth?

The Bible warns that the final deception on this sin-cursed earth will involve Satan masquerading as an angel of light, as described in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15. Satan’s agents appear as ministers of righteousness, but their goal is to deceive and destroy. As the end draws near, Satan’s wrath increases, knowing his time is short. This essay will explore the nature of this final deception, how Satan plans to execute it, and its impact on humanity. Through his calculated and subtle methods, Satan will attempt to lead even the elect astray. Satan transforms his appearance to pose as a righteous figure. Jeremiah 27:9 warns against false seers, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 declares end to sorcery, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White reveals the disguise, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She urges vigilance, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Through his calculated and subtle methods, Satan will attempt to lead even the elect astray. What intensifies Satan’s fury as the end of time approaches?

As the end of time approaches, Satan’s fury intensifies, driving him to orchestrate his final deception. According to Revelation 12:12, the devil comes to the earth in great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time. Ellen G. White affirms this by stating that Satan’s work of deceit and destruction will culminate in the time of trouble (The Great Controversy, p. 623). Throughout history, Satan has waged war against God, leading people to reject Christ and choose rebellion. In the last days, this battle will reach its peak as Satan personates Christ, attempting to deceive the world. White writes that Satan will appear as a majestic being, working miracles and claiming to have changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday (The Great Controversy, pp. 624-625). This final act of deception will lead many to forsake God’s commandments, furthering their rebellion against His law. Satan ramps up his assaults in awareness of limited time. 1 Timothy 4:1 signals defection, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Mark 13:22 cautions against signs, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White describes the war, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She details the peak, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This final act of deception will lead many to forsake God’s commandments, furthering their rebellion against His law. What key strategy will Satan use to deceive the masses?

One of the key strategies Satan will use is impersonating Christ, a tactic designed to bewilder and deceive the masses. Ellen G. White notes that Satan will come as a majestic being, resembling the description of Christ found in Revelation 1:13-15 (The Great Controversy, p. 624). His voice will be gentle and compassionate, and he will perform miracles such as healing diseases. By mimicking Christ’s actions and teachings, Satan will convince many that he is the second coming of the Savior. However, his ultimate goal is to lead people away from the law of God. White explains that Satan will declare those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath as blasphemers, using his influence to promote Sunday as the new holy day (The Great Controversy, p. 625). This deception will be so powerful that, if possible, even the elect would be deceived (Fundamentals of Christian Education, pp. 471-472). Through this act, Satan seeks to turn humanity away from God’s commandments and establish his dominion on earth. Satan replicates Christ’s form and deeds to promote lawlessness. Matthew 7:21-23 exposes pretenders, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9 unveils power, “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Sr. White depicts the mimicry, noting that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She warns of the power, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Through this act, Satan seeks to turn humanity away from God’s commandments and establish his dominion on earth. How will Satan demand worship in his final effort?

In his desperate final effort, Satan will not only personate Christ but will also demand worship. White explains that Satan will command all to worship him, performing mighty miracles to convince the world of his divinity (6 SDA Bible Commentary, p. 1106). Many will fall down and worship him, believing that their prayers for Christ’s return have been answered. This grand deception will appeal to those who have rejected the truth, but the faithful will recognize it as Satan’s last attempt to mislead the world. Christ’s true second coming will be unmistakable, accompanied by legions of angels and great power and glory (6 SDA Bible Commentary, p. 1106). Despite the overwhelming deception, God’s people are called to remain steadfast, knowing that Christ has warned them of this false Christ. Satan enforces adoration through spectacular displays. Revelation 20:3 envisions his defeat, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 fosters resilience, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White assures the faithful, writing that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She emphasizes knowledge, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Despite the overwhelming deception, God’s people are called to remain steadfast, knowing that Christ has warned them of this false Christ. What completes the rebellion against God’s law after Satan’s grand deception?

After Satan’s grand deception reaches its peak, the rebellion against God’s law will be complete, and the law of God will be made void as fallen angels and evil men unite in rebellion. However, God’s judgment will soon follow, bringing an end to the apostasy and punishing those who exalt Satan as Christ (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 62). Fallen angels and humans unite to nullify divine commands fully. 1 John 4:1 requires examination, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 2 Timothy 3:13 anticipates worsening, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Sr. White foretells the completion, noting that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She predicts punishment, stating that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). However, God’s judgment will soon follow, bringing an end to the apostasy and punishing those who exalt Satan as Christ (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 62). How does Satan aim to control the Christian world in the final moments?

MAKING VOID GOD’S LAW

In the final moments of earth’s history, Satan’s ultimate deception will reach its climax, and the law of God will be fully made void. As described in Testimonies to Ministers (p. 62), fallen angels will unite with evil men to bring about this rebellion, with Satan appearing as the true Christ. This confederation of darkness will deceive the world, leading humanity to exalt Satan as God and deify him. While the rebellion reaches its peak, the sentence of divine judgment will be pronounced upon those who join in exalting Satan, bringing about their destruction as described in Revelation 18:8. This essay will explore the purpose and scope of Satan’s deception and the effects it will have on both the church and the world. Satan culminates his rebellion by voiding God’s law through unholy alliances. Matthew 24:11 warns of deceivers, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Mark 13:22 alerts to wonders, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White describes the climax, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She outlines the scope, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). This essay will explore the purpose and scope of Satan’s deception and the effects it will have on both the church and the world. What is Satan’s goal in appearing as the leader of Christendom?

Satan’s goal is to gain control of the entire Christian world, appearing as the leader of Christendom. As noted by Ellen G. White, Satan is working with unprecedented intensity, performing lying wonders to deceive the world (Manuscript Releases, vol. 81, p. 346). Hiding his true nature under the guise of Christianity, Satan assumes the attributes of a Christian, even claiming to be Christ himself. This grand deception will sweep across the globe, and his influence will grow as people embrace his lies. By personating Christ, Satan seeks to lead the world away from God’s truth and into rebellion. His purpose is clear: to deceive as many as possible, drawing them into his confederacy of darkness and away from the light of God’s law. Satan conceals his identity to claim Christian leadership and promote rebellion. Jeremiah 27:9 dismisses false advisors, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 eliminates occult practices, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White exposes the intensity, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She reveals the purpose, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). His purpose is clear: to deceive as many as possible, drawing them into his confederacy of darkness and away from the light of God’s law. How will some among God’s people fall victim to Satan’s snares?

Sadly, some among God’s people will fall victim to Satan’s snares, even within the church. Ellen G. White warns that “the forms of the dead will appear” as part of Satan’s cunning devices, leading many to embrace false doctrines and turn away from the faith (Upward Look, p. 317). This deception will not remain outside the church but will infiltrate it, as seducing spirits and doctrines of devils will arise within its midst (Manuscript Releases, vol. 8, p. 345). Entire families who once rejoiced in the truth will be led astray by calumnies and falsehoods, hardening their hearts against the advocates of truth. As these individuals accept new and false theories, the precious truth will lose its power over them (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 411). The conflict between truth and error will become fiercer as Satan works to deceive even the very elect. Satan infiltrates the church with apparitions and false teachings to harden hearts. 1 Timothy 4:1 predicts seducing spirits, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” 2 Thessalonians 2:11 explains the lie, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” Sr. White warns of infiltration, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She describes the loss, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). The conflict between truth and error will become fiercer as Satan works to deceive even the very elect. What is Satan’s ultimate objective in leading humanity into rebellion?

Satan’s ultimate objective is to lead humanity into rebellion against God’s law, turning people away from the commandments. Ellen G. White describes how Satan, disguised as an angel of light, will walk the earth as a wonder-worker, performing miracles to deceive even rulers and world leaders (Fundamentals of Christian Education, pp. 471-472). By assuming the appearance of Christ, Satan will convince many that God’s law has been changed, particularly the Sabbath commandment. This will be a direct attack on the fourth commandment, as Satan commands the observance of Sunday in place of the seventh-day Sabbath. His deception will be so well-crafted that if possible, even the most faithful in the community would be deceived. Yet, despite his efforts, God’s faithful people are called to stand firm in their commitment to God’s law, resisting the overwhelming tide of deception. Satan targets God’s law to foster universal rebellion. Matthew 7:21-23 judges workers of iniquity, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Mark 13:22 warns of seduction through wonders, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White details the attack, stating that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She emphasizes resistance, noting that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Yet, despite his efforts, God’s faithful people are called to stand firm in their commitment to God’s law, resisting the overwhelming tide of deception. What persecution will those who stand firm face as the deception climaxes?

As Satan’s deception reaches its climax, those who refuse to compromise and stand firm in their commitment to God’s law will face increased persecution. Although the enemy’s attacks will be relentless, God’s people are called to persevere, cleaving to their faith amidst the darkness. Even in these challenging times, victory is assured through unwavering trust in God’s truth (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 157). The faithful endure intensified opposition for upholding truth. Revelation 20:3 foretells Satan’s binding, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 builds stability, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White promises victory, writing that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She assures perseverance, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Even in these challenging times, victory is assured through unwavering trust in God’s truth (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 157). Can we ever rest from the enemy’s relentless attacks on earth?

FAITH AND RESISTANCE IN LAST DAYS

Ellen G. White reminds us that “the time will never come when the shadow of Satan will not be cast athwart our pathway” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 157). Satan continually seeks to obstruct the faith of God’s people, and the trials we face serve as reminders that this world is not our final home. We must cleave to our faith despite the darkness that seeks to overwhelm us. Sr. White emphasizes that faith is not grounded in feelings but in truth. As the world becomes increasingly wicked, we will continue to encounter difficulties. However, our unwavering trust in God will sustain us even in the most challenging circumstances. The enemy’s efforts to discourage and destroy our faith are constant, but the assurance of God’s truth remains our strength and foundation. Satan persistently casts shadows to hinder our faith journey. 1 Timothy 4:1 warns of departure, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Matthew 24:11 announces many deceivers, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Sr. White stresses unyielding trust, noting that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She grounds faith, stating that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). The enemy’s efforts to discourage and destroy our faith are constant, but the assurance of God’s truth remains our strength and foundation. How does the world view those who keep God’s commandments in this spiritual battle?

White warns that “those who love and keep the commandments of God are most obnoxious to the synagogue of Satan” (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, April 14, 1896). The powers of darkness, united with human agents under Satan’s control, will exhibit intense hatred toward commandment keepers. These scenes of persecution will mirror the trial, rejection, and crucifixion of Christ. Humanity, created in the image of God, will be transformed into agents of evil, reflecting the image of Satan himself. In Revelation, John foresaw the conflict between the remnant church and the forces of darkness, symbolized by the dragon making war with those who keep the commandments of God (Revelation 12:17). This ongoing battle against righteousness reveals that standing firm in the faith often results in the world’s hatred and persecution. Darkness unites to hate those upholding God’s commands. Jeremiah 27:9 rejects enchanters, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 cuts off witchcraft, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White highlights the enmity, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She depicts the transformation, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). This ongoing battle against righteousness reveals that standing firm in the faith often results in the world’s hatred and persecution. What severe consequences will this enmity bring upon God’s people?

The result of this enmity will be severe persecution of God’s people. As described in The Great Controversy, “the decree issued by the various rulers of Christendom against commandment keepers shall withdraw the protection of government” (p. 626). This will lead to the faithful fleeing to desolate places, finding refuge in mountains and wilderness areas, much like the Christians of the Piedmont valleys. Although they will seek safety, many will be subjected to imprisonment, bondage, and even death. Some will be left to die in dark dungeons with no human help available. This vivid imagery highlights the extent of suffering we will endure for our faith. However, the faith and hope in God’s promises will remain our source of strength, even in the face of such cruelty. The faithful must be prepared for these trials, recognizing that earthly protection will be withdrawn, and only God will be our refuge. Governments remove protection, forcing flight and suffering for faith. Revelation 20:3 binds the deceiver, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 strengthens against deceit, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White portrays the decree, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She affirms hope, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). The faithful must be prepared for these trials, recognizing that earthly protection will be withdrawn, and only God will be our refuge. How must we stay vigilant as Satan works to deceive the world?

As Satan works to deceive the world, we must stay vigilant. White states, “Satan will work miracles, making people sick and then suddenly healing them” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 53). These apparent healings will serve as tests for us, as many will be tempted to believe the false miracles. Those who fail to remain in close communion with Christ will falter when faced with these deceptions. The enemy’s tactics will grow more cunning as the end approaches, with wonders performed by Satan that mimic God’s miraculous works. This deception will test our faith, and only those rooted in the truth of God’s Word will be able to discern between the genuine and the counterfeit. Satan tests faith through manipulated healings and cunning wonders. 1 John 4:1 tests spirits, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 2 Timothy 3:13 warns of worsening deceivers, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Sr. White alerts to the tests, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She calls for discernment, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This deception will test our faith, and only those rooted in the truth of God’s Word will be able to discern between the genuine and the counterfeit. What essential preparation is needed for the final great delusion?

Ellen G. White warns that “the last great delusion is soon to open before us” (The Great Controversy, p. 593). The Antichrist will perform works that closely resemble the truth, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the counterfeit from the real without a firm knowledge of the Scriptures. The Bible must serve as the ultimate test for every statement and miracle, as it is only through its testimony that we can navigate the deceptions of the enemy. As the last days unfold, the importance of grounding ourselves in the Word of God becomes increasingly clear. Only through a deep understanding of Scripture can we remain steadfast, resisting the false miracles that Satan will present. The enemy unleashes a delusion mimicking truth to confuse even the wise. Jeremiah 27:9 shuns sorcerers, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 eradicates witchcraft, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White forewarns the delusion, stating that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She stresses Scripture’s role, noting that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Only through a deep understanding of Scripture can we remain steadfast, resisting the false miracles that Satan will present. How will the battle between good and evil intensify as the end draws near?

The battle between good and evil will intensify as the end draws near. The attacks on God’s faithful people will never cease, but our faith must remain unshaken. Satan’s deceptions will grow more subtle and powerful, but those who trust in God’s Word and keep His commandments will persevere. This unyielding faith is the key to overcoming the trials of this world and standing firm in the face of the enemy’s attacks. Good confronts evil with escalating force in the closing scenes. Revelation 20:3 confines Satan, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 guards against craftiness, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White affirms unyielding faith, writing that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She highlights perseverance, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). This unyielding faith is the key to overcoming the trials of this world and standing firm in the face of the enemy’s attacks. Why is diligent study of the Scriptures crucial for withstanding the final great deception?

PREPARING FOR GREAT DECEPTION

The final great deception is rapidly approaching, where Antichrist will perform miraculous works that closely resemble the truth. As Ellen G. White warns, this deception will be so convincing that it will be impossible to distinguish between the true and the false without the guidance of the Holy Scriptures (The Great Controversy, p. 593). In light of this, it becomes crucial for us to study the Bible and understand its teachings deeply, for the Bible will be the only reliable source to test every miracle and statement. This essay explores the preparation necessary to withstand this deception and highlights the importance of testing all things by God’s Word. Antichrist executes wonders mimicking truth to confound discernment. 1 Timothy 4:1 reveals spirits, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” Matthew 24:11 foretells deceivers, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Sr. White stresses study, noting that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She underscores guidance, stating that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This essay explores the preparation necessary to withstand this deception and highlights the importance of testing all things by God’s Word. Is sincerity alone sufficient to protect us from deception?

Sincerity alone is not enough to protect us from deception. Ellen G. White makes it clear that “faith in a lie will not have a sanctifying influence upon the life or character” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 56). While sincerity is essential, it must be grounded in the truth of God’s Word. Blind faith in false teachings will not lead to salvation. Instead, we must seek the truth that sanctifies and be diligent in comparing spiritual matters with Scripture. As White emphasizes, “We must prove all things, but hold fast only that which is good” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 56). This means that every belief, teaching, and miracle must be tested against the Bible, for it is the only safeguard against error. Thus, true faith must be anchored in the Word of God, not in emotions or human traditions. Truth grounds sincerity to prevent blind acceptance of lies. Jeremiah 27:9 rejects diviners, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 removes soothsayers, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White clarifies the limit, writing that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She insists on testing, stating that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). Thus, true faith must be anchored in the Word of God, not in emotions or human traditions. How can diligent study of the Scriptures prepare us for the final deception?

One of the primary ways we can prepare for the final deception is by diligently studying the Scriptures. The Bible is the sole source of truth, and White asserts that “only those who have been diligent students of the Scriptures and who have received the love of the truth will be shielded from the powerful delusion that takes the world captive” (The Great Controversy, p. 625). In the face of such deception, it is essential to be firmly grounded in God’s Word so that no worldly temptations or distractions can sway our faith. Satan will attempt to hinder this preparation by burdening us with worldly cares, but it is crucial to resist such distractions and focus solely on God’s truth. As White further explains, only those who “cling to the Bible and the Bible only” will be able to stand firm during the crisis (The Great Controversy, p. 625). Thus, familiarity with the doctrines of the Bible is essential for spiritual survival in the last days. Scripture shields diligent students from captivating delusions. Revelation 20:3 seals Satan, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 prevents tossing, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White affirms shielding, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She stresses clinging, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Thus, familiarity with the doctrines of the Bible is essential for spiritual survival in the last days. What threats do apostasy and fanaticism pose in the final days?

Apostasy and fanaticism are significant threats to our faith, particularly in the final days. White warns that false teachings and fanaticism divert our minds from the solid foundation of Scripture. “Fanaticism takes the mind away from the evidence of truth—the Word itself” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 43). During the last days, there will be many claims of miraculous works and sensational religious experiences, but these are not evidence of divine approval. As White stresses, “the law of God is as sacred as His throne, and by it every man who cometh into the world is to be judged” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 51). Therefore, any teaching or movement that leads away from obedience to God’s law must be rejected, no matter how convincing it may appear. We are encouraged to focus on the calm, dignified work of God, which is always characterized by obedience to His law and truth. False teachings divert minds from Scripture’s solid evidence. 1 John 4:1 examines spirits, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 2 Timothy 3:13 escalates evil, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Sr. White warns of diversion, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She rejects sensationalism, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). We are encouraged to focus on the calm, dignified work of God, which is always characterized by obedience to His law and truth. How must we anchor our faith as the world approaches the final great deception?

As the world approaches the final great deception, we must anchor our faith in the Word of God. Ellen G. White’s writings consistently highlight the importance of relying on Scripture to discern truth from error. Sincerity and emotional experiences are not sufficient; only the Bible can serve as the firm foundation in the face of deception. To prepare, we must diligently study the Scriptures, test every teaching against God’s Word, and resist the distractions of worldly cares. As White admonishes, “Let not the days pass by and precious opportunities be lost of seeking the Lord with all the heart and mind and soul” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 53). The time to prepare is now, and this preparation will be the key to standing firm when the final delusion unfolds. Scripture anchors faith to discern amid overwhelming error. Jeremiah 27:9 avoids false prophets, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 ends enchantments, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White highlights reliance, stating that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She urges seeking, noting that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). The time to prepare is now, and this preparation will be the key to standing firm when the final delusion unfolds. Why can we not trust miracles alone in these last days?

STANDING FIRM AMID DECEPTION

In these last days, we must have a clear and firm attitude regarding the truth if we do not wish to be deceived. The Bible warns that “if we accept not the truth in the love of it, we may be among the number who will see the miracles wrought by Satan in these last days and believe them” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 53). The miracles Satan will perform will seem extraordinary and miraculous, yet they are deceptions. Our defense against such lies is to continually seek the Lord with all our heart, mind, and soul, holding fast to the truth found in the Scriptures. We fortify ourselves through wholehearted seeking and scriptural adherence. Matthew 7:21-23 reveals false miracle workers, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Mark 13:22 exposes seductive signs, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Sr. White cautions against belief, noting that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She defends with truth, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Our defense against such lies is to continually seek the Lord with all our heart, mind, and soul, holding fast to the truth found in the Scriptures. Why must we understand that we cannot trust in miracles alone?

We must understand why we cannot trust in miracles alone. Satan will counterfeit the miraculous works of God, deceiving many with false miracles. Ellen White writes, “God’s servants today could not work by means of miracles, because spurious works of healing, claiming to be divine, will be wrought” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 54). Instead, Christ calls us to combine teaching the Word with genuine medical missionary work. Sanitariums and other healing institutions provide a safe, God-ordained environment for spreading His truth while avoiding the false miracles Satan will produce (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 54). This work, led by God, offers a safe path forward in contrast to the deceptions in the world. God directs genuine work to counter spurious healings. 1 Timothy 4:1 exposes doctrines of devils, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9 displays lying wonders, “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Sr. White explains counterfeits, writing that “Satan is constantly seeking to deceive men and lead them to call sin righteousness, and righteousness sin” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 338, 1890). She contrasts paths, noting that “Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). This work, led by God, offers a safe path forward in contrast to the deceptions in the world. What is the only source of true strength against these deceptions?

We must turn to the only source of true strength: God’s living Word. Ellen White asserts that “God’s people will not find their safety in working miracles” because Satan will counterfeit every miraculous sign (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 55). Instead, we will stand firm by taking our stand on the living Word of God, particularly in obedience to His commandments, as represented in Exodus 31:12-18. We will be identified by our reverence for the fourth commandment, which serves as a sign of God’s creative power and authority. In the final conflict, Christendom will be divided into two groups: those who keep God’s commandments and those who accept the mark of the beast (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 55). The true foundation of safety lies in the written Word, not in miraculous signs. God’s Word provides unassailable safety amid counterfeits. Jeremiah 27:9 shuns enchanters, “Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers.” Micah 5:12 erases witchcraft, “And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.” Sr. White asserts safety, stating that “The hypnotic influence of Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables” (Counsels to the Church, p. 324, 1991). She founds it on Word, noting that “Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent” (Counsels to the Church, p. 323, 1991). The true foundation of safety lies in the written Word, not in miraculous signs. How will God’s people endure trials through trust in the living Word?

God’s people will endure trials and tests but will not be overcome because of our trust in the living Word. While Satan will deceive many through false miracles, God’s chosen people will stand firm, protected by angels and guided by our faith. As Ellen White wrote, “Fearful tests and trials await the people of God… But during the time of trouble… God’s chosen people will stand unmoved” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 55). We are encouraged to stay rooted in truth, faithfully following God’s will and seeking a closer relationship with the Holy Spirit. Only by trusting in the Word and the power of God can we overcome the deceptions of Satan and emerge victorious. Angels protect those trusting the Word amid trials. Revelation 20:3 shuts deception, “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Ephesians 4:14 avoids sleight, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Sr. White encourages rooting, writing that “Satan has power to bring before us the appearance of forms purporting to be our friends or relatives now sleeping in Jesus” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). She promises victory, stating that “The saints must get a thorough understanding of present truth, which they will be obliged to maintain from the Scriptures” (Early Writings, p. 87, 1882). Only by trusting in the Word and the power of God can we overcome the deceptions of Satan and emerge victorious.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (KJV): Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
