HERE IS THE PATIENCE OF THE SAINTS: HERE ARE THEY THAT KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, AND THE FAITH OF JESUS. (REVELATION 14:12, KJV)
ABSTRACT
This article endeavors to unfurl the profound identity and critical mission of the angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God, as depicted in Revelation 7:2-3. We will journey through Scripture and inspired writings to demonstrate this angel’s direct connection to the momentous Third Angel’s Message of Revelation 14, exploring its urgent relevance for God’s faithful, particularly those who stand on the front lines of proclaiming truth in these climactic moments of earth’s history. Imagine, a world teetering on the brink, buffeted by winds of strife, yet held in a moment of divine restraint. What is this pause for? It is for a work of eternal consequence: the sealing of God’s servants. We will explore the sacred insignia of this seal—the Sabbath—and the soul-stirring final warning that accompanies it. This journey is not merely academic; it touches the very core of our relationship with God, our responsibilities to Him and our fellow beings, and how these ancient prophecies reflect the unfathomable depths of His love and His meticulous plan for our salvation. This is a call to understand, to prepare, and to act.
MERCY BEFORE JUDGMENT!
The very concept of a sealing angel intervening before destruction, as seen in Revelation 7:2-3, implies a divine pattern of mercy preceding judgment, a theme that resonates throughout the sacred Scriptures. Mercy depends on a divine pattern where warning precedes consequences. This sequence, where a period of warning and preparation is granted before divine consequences unfold, is not unique; we see its echoes in the ancient narratives of Noah, who preached for 120 years before the flood (Genesis 6-7), and Lot, who was urged to flee Sodom before its fiery demise (Genesis 19). Scriptures further support this with “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them.” (Jonah 3:10, KJV) and “If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.” (Jeremiah 18:8, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The angels are holding the four winds. It is God that restrains the powers. The angels have not let go, for the saints are not all sealed.” (A Seal of the Living God, p. 25, 1849) and “We read that “the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,” and that God “is longsuffering to usward not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Longsuffering, therefore, is patience, forbearance.” (The Medical Missionary, p. 326, 1898). Therefore, the mission of the sealing angel is not merely to affix a mark, but to signify a crucial, final opportunity for humanity to align with God’s will before the destructive winds are irrevocably loosed, a profound testament to God’s longsuffering and patient love. But who is this beacon of divine authority emerging amidst the chaos?
INTERVENTION FROM THE SUNRISE!
The book of Revelation, a tapestry woven with threads of conflict and divine triumph, paints a picture of terrifying grandeur, yet amidst the foreshadowed chaos, a beacon of divine authority and mercy emerges with startling clarity. Divine intervention halts impending destruction through a celestial command. The Apostle John, exiled on Patmos, beholds a pivotal scene, a moment pregnant with eternal significance: “And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.” (Revelation 7:2-3, KJV). Destructive forces are poised, ready to unleash unimaginable devastation upon a world ripe for judgment, yet they are stayed by a celestial command. This is not a mere celestial messenger engaged in routine duty; this angel, ascending from the sun’s rising—a direction often associated with hope and deliverance—bears the very “seal of the living God,” an emblem of ultimate authority, life-giving power, and divine ownership. The cry is not a whisper but a “loud voice,” a divine imperative that underscores a work of paramount, non-negotiable importance: the identification and securing of God’s faithful servants before the final storm breaks. Sr. White, a messenger of the Lord, elaborates on this profound divine intervention, providing deeper insight into the scene: “John sees the elements of nature—earthquake, tempest, and political strife—represented as being held by four angels. These winds are under control until God gives the word to let them go. There is the safety of God’s church. The angels of God do His bidding, holding back the winds of the earth, that the winds should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree, until the servants of God should be sealed in their foreheads. The mighty angel is seen ascending from the east (or sunrising). This mightiest of angels has in his hand the seal of the living God, or of Him who alone can give life, who can inscribe upon the foreheads the mark or inscription, to whom shall be granted immortality, eternal life. It is the voice of this highest angel that had authority to command the four angels to keep in check the four winds until this work was performed, and until he should give the summons to let them loose.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 444, 1923). Scriptures further support this with “The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.” (Proverbs 10:3, KJV) and “The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.” (Psalm 34:22, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “John saw four messengers had the power to injure the inhabitants of earth, sea and trees. These we have named as the four principal ones.” (A Seal of the Living God, p. 288, 1849) and “The angels of God in their messages to men represent time as very short.” (Maranatha, p. 393, 1976). This is an extended mercy, a window of golden opportunity graciously granted by a loving God. It emphasizes God’s protective, encompassing care over His church, His cherished heritage, ensuring that not one who is His will be overlooked in this final, critical work of sealing. The very air seems to hold its breath as heaven focuses on this singular, vital task. This protective ministry of angels is a comforting theme throughout Scripture. As the psalmist declares, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalm 91:11, KJV). This promise finds a powerful echo in the mission of the sealing angel, whose primary task is to ensure the safety and identification of God’s people. Furthermore, we read, “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.” (Psalm 34:7, KJV). This active, vigilant role of heavenly beings in safeguarding the faithful is precisely what is depicted in Revelation 7, offering immense assurance to those who fear God and seek to do His will. Sr. White, in her visions, received further confirmation of this critical period: “Just before we entered it [the time of trouble], we all received the seal of the living God. Then I saw the four angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence and sword, nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion.” (Day-Star, March 14, 1846, as quoted in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 968, 1957). This starkly connects the reception of the seal with the imminent unleashing of global calamities, highlighting the urgency of the sealing work. In another poignant statement, she observes the world’s condition in light of this prophecy: “Everything in the world is in an unsettled state. The nations are angry, and great preparations for war are being made. Nation is plotting against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. The great day of God is hasting greatly. But although the nations are mustering their forces for war and bloodshed, the command to the angels is still in force, that they hold the four winds until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads.” (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 221, 1958). This underscores the contemporary relevance and ongoing nature of this divine sealing amidst the escalating turmoil of our world, a world groaning under the weight of sin yet held momentarily by the restraining hand of God’s mercy. But what is the detailed identification and mission profile for this celestial messenger?
IDENTITY UNVEILED!
While the vision in Revelation 7 dramatically introduces this protective sealing angel ascending from the east, halting global destruction with a divine mandate, the subsequent prophetic narrative in Revelation 14 provides a more detailed identification and mission profile for this very same celestial messenger, revealing the specific nature of the message that accomplishes this sealing. Identification links the sealing angel to the three angels’ messages. This connection is not a matter of conjecture but a truth unveiled through diligent, prayerful study of those who sought to understand God’s unfolding plan for the last days. This vital understanding is articulated with compelling clarity: “We conclude, then, that the angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God, is a divine messenger in charge of a work of reform to be carried on among men in reference to the Sabbath of the fourth commandment…. In Revelation 14 we find the same work again brought to view under the symbol of an angel flying in the midst of heaven with the most terrible warning that ever fell upon the ears of men. The angel with the seal of the living God is therefore the same as the third angel of chapter 14.” (Daniel and the Revelation, p. 443, 1897). This identification is so profoundly crucial because it directly connects the act of sealing—the divine imprinting upon the foreheads of the faithful—with the specific, soul-stirring warnings and eternal truths proclaimed by the third angel. This message, as outlined in Revelation 14:9-12, points with unerring accuracy to the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus as the distinguishing characteristics of those who receive the seal. Sr. White confirms this pivotal identification: “The mighty angel is seen ascending from the east (or sunrising). This mightiest of angels has in his hand the seal of the living God, or of Him who alone can give life, who can inscribe upon the foreheads the mark or inscription, to whom shall be granted immortality, eternal life.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 444, 1923). Scriptures further support this with “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15, KJV) and “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The third angel’s message is the proclamation of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. The commandments of God have been proclaimed, but the faith of Jesus Christ has not been proclaimed by Seventh-day Adventists as of equal importance, the law and the gospel going hand in hand.” (The Three Angels’ Messages, p. 113, 1888) and “The first and second messages were given in 1843 and 1844, and we are now under the proclamation of the third; but all three of the messages are still to be proclaimed. It is just as essential now as ever before that they shall be repeated to those who are seeking for the truth. By pen and voice we are to sound the proclamation, showing their order, and the application of the prophecies that bring us to the third angel’s message.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 104, 1958). The Third Angel’s Message, therefore, is not merely another proclamation; it is the divine agency, the very instrument, through which this final sealing is accomplished, meticulously preparing a people who can stand firm amidst the final crisis, ready for the glorious appearing of their Lord. The solemn words of the third angel echo this connection: “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:” (Revelation 14:9-10, KJV). This fearful warning sets the stage, and immediately following it, the character of the sealed is described: “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” (Revelation 14:12, KJV). This juxtaposition is no accident; it reveals the cause and effect, the message and its fruit. Sr. White further emphasizes the ongoing and paramount importance of this message: “The first and second messages were given in 1843 and 1844, and we are now under the proclamation of the third; but all three of the messages are still to be proclaimed. It is just as essential now as ever before that they shall be repeated to those who are seeking for the truth. By pen and voice we are to sound the proclamation, showing their order, and the application of the prophecies that bring us to the third angel’s message.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 104, 1958). This continuity shows that the sealing work, initiated under the third angel, is the present truth for our time. Moreover, she defines the core of this message: “The third angel’s message is the proclamation of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. The commandments of God have been proclaimed, but the faith of Jesus Christ has not been proclaimed by Seventh-day Adventists as of equal importance, the law and the gospel going hand in hand.” (The Three Angels’ Messages, p. 113, 1888). This dual emphasis on God’s unchanging law and the saving faith of Jesus is the very essence of the sealing truth. But what does this identification reveal about the act of sealing itself?
SEALING AS ACTIVE RESPONSE!
The direct identification of the sealing angel of Revelation 7 with the Third Angel of Revelation 14 leads to a profound realization: the act of sealing is not a passive, mystical impartation of a mark. Sealing requires an active response to truth-laden messages. Instead, it is an active, conscious response to a specific, truth-laden message. This message, as articulated by the Third Angel, calls for a deep-seated reform in the lives of us and unwavering obedience to God’s revealed will. The work of reform is not a superficial adjustment but a thorough transformation of heart and life, aligning us with the divine standard. Scriptures further support this with “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;” (Ephesians 5:1, KJV) and “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The seal of the living God will be placed upon those only who bear a likeness to Christ in character.” (The Review and Herald, May 21, 1895, 1895) and “Only those who, in their attitude before God, are filling the position of those who are repenting and confessing their sins in the great antitypical day of atonement, will be recognized and marked as worthy of God’s protection.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 445, 1923). Therefore, the sealing process is inextricably linked to hearing, understanding, internalizing, and living out the specific truths of the Third Angel’s Message—the commandments of God, the faith of Jesus, and the solemn warning against the mark of the beast. It is a dynamic, ongoing process of character development, not a static, instantaneous event. But what implication does this carry for the criteria of receiving the seal?
CRITERIA FOR THE SEAL!
This understanding carries with it a weighty implication: if the Third Angel is indeed the sealing angel, then the very content of the Third Angel’s Message—which prominently features the binding claims of God’s commandments, the centrality of the faith of Jesus, the sacredness of the Sabbath, and the crucial warning against the beast’s mark and image—becomes the set of criteria, the divine standard, by which individuals are prepared for and receive the seal of the living God. The Third Angel’s Message sets the divine standard for preparation. This realization elevates the importance of not just intellectually assenting to these truths, but of allowing them to permeate every fiber of our being, shaping our thoughts, our words, and our actions. It calls for a deep, experiential relationship with these defining pillars of present truth. Scriptures further support this with “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:14, KJV) and “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath, the Lord’s memorial of creation…. The mark of the beast is the opposite of this—the observance of the first day of the week.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 8, p. 117, 1904) and “Those who would have the seal of God in their foreheads must keep the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. This is what distinguishes them from the disloyal, who have accepted a man-made institution in the place of the true Sabbath. The observance of God’s rest day is the mark of distinction between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not.” (Manuscript 27, 1899, 1899). This understanding carries a profound implication for our lives in these last days.
SACRED SEAL DEFINED!
The seal of the living God, introduced with such solemnity in Revelation 7:2 , is far more than a literal, visible mark impressed upon the skin; it represents a profound settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, to such a degree that those who possess it cannot be moved from their allegiance to God. The seal signifies an internal transformation and alignment with divine will. It is an internal transformation, a character perfectly aligned with the divine will. Sr. White, with inspired insight, profoundly states, “The Sabbath is the great test question. It is the line of demarkation between the…source It is the seal of the living God.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 423, 1980). The Sabbath, as enshrined in the fourth commandment, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy… For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:8, 11, KJV) , uniquely contains the essential elements of a seal: the name of the Lawgiver (the LORD), His title (Creator – “made heaven and earth”), and His dominion (heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is). Its observance, therefore, becomes a powerful sign of loyalty to the Creator in a world that increasingly disregards His divine authority and His sacred claims. Sr. White further clarifies the nature of this seal: “What is the seal of the living God, which is placed in the foreheads of His people? It is a mark which angels, but not human eyes, can read; for the destroying angel must see this mark of redemption… They have on the wedding garment, and are obedient and faithful to all God’s commands.” (Letter 126, 1898, 1898). Scriptures further support this with “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” (Ezekiel 9:4, KJV) and “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The Sabbath is a pledge given by God to man—a sign of the relation existing between the Creator and His created beings.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 1527, 1980) and “The Sabbath of the fourth commandment is the seal of the living God. It points to God as the Creator, and is the sign of His rightful authority over the beings He has made.” (The Signs of the Times, p. 20943, 1896). This sealing, then, denotes not just an outward observance, but an inward transformation resulting in a character perfectly conformed to God’s holy law, a mind and heart fully surrendered to His truth, clothed in the righteousness of Christ—the wedding garment. The Sabbath is explicitly called a “sign” in Scripture, a term synonymous with a seal in this context: “Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you… It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.” (Exodus 31:13, 17, KJV). This directly links the Sabbath to God’s sanctifying power and His identity as Creator. The prophet Ezekiel reiterates this: “Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them… And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.” (Ezekiel 20:12, 20, KJV). This repetition underscores the Sabbath as a vital sign of the covenant relationship between God and His people, and a mark of their sanctification. Sr. White explicitly states, “The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath, the Lord’s memorial of creation…. The mark of the beast is the opposite of this—the observance of the first day of the week.” (Testimonies for the Church 8:117, as quoted in Maranatha, p. 211, 1976). She further reinforces this: “Those who would have the seal of God in their foreheads must keep the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. This is what distinguishes them from the disloyal, who have accepted a man-made institution in the place of the true Sabbath. The observance of God’s rest day is the mark of distinction between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not.” (Manuscript 27, 1899, as quoted in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957). Thus, the Seal of God is the Sabbath, observed in spirit and truth, signifying loyalty to the Creator and a character transformed by His grace. But when does this divine marking take on its ultimate prophetic significance?
TIMETABLE FOR SEALING!
Understanding the Sabbath as the Seal of the Living God—an emblem of unwavering loyalty to the Creator and a sign of a sanctified life—naturally leads us to inquire about the specific timeframe in which this divine marking, this sacred imprinting, takes on its ultimate and most critical prophetic significance in the grand drama of salvation. The year 1844 marks the commencement of Christ’s final ministry and the sealing work. The year 1844 stands as a monumental prophetic milestone, signifying the commencement of Christ’s final, solemn mediatorial work in the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary and, concurrently, the dawning of the special sealing work on earth. As the veil was parted for our High Priest to enter upon His concluding ministry, a parallel work of preparation and identification began for His people below. Sr. White affirms this critical timing with unmistakable clarity: “Since 1844, in fulfillment of the prophecy of the third angel’s message, the attention of the world has been called to the true Sabbath, and a constantly increasing number are returning to the observance of God’s holy day.” (The Spirit of Prophecy Volume 4, p. 286, 1884). This period, emerging from the crucible of the Great Disappointment, witnessed the dawning light on the profound truths of the sanctuary and the binding claims of the Sabbath—both integral and inseparable components of the sealing message. The long-prophesied words of Daniel 8:14, “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed,” (KJV) reached their precise fulfillment in 1844, initiating this antitypical Day of Atonement, the investigative judgment, where the cases of the professed people of God pass in review before the heavenly tribunal. It is precisely during this momentous period that the Third Angel’s Message, which we have identified as the sealing message, began its distinct and urgent work of calling a people back to true worship. Sr. White further illuminates this connection: “God had committed to His people a work to be accomplished on earth. The third angel’s message was to be given, the minds of us were to be directed to the heavenly sanctuary, where Christ had entered to make atonement for His people. The Sabbath reform was to be carried forward. The breach in the law of God must be made up.” (Maranatha, p. 61, 1976). Scriptures further support this with “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, KJV) and “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;” (Hebrews 2:3, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “As the priests in the earthly sanctuary entered the most holy once a year to cleanse the sanctuary, Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make a final atonement for all who could be benefited by His mediation, and to cleanse the sanctuary.” (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 1, p. 162, 1858) and “The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest. Otherwise, it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith essential at this time, or to occupy the position which God designs them to fill.” (The Spirit of Prophecy Volume 4, p. 313, 1884). Thus, the sealing is not an abstract, timeless concept but a specific work grounded in a precise prophetic timeline, deeply and inextricably intertwined with Christ’s climactic heavenly ministry and the vital restoration of Sabbath truth to its rightful place in the hearts and lives of His people. The apostle Paul describes Christ’s current ministry: “Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” (Hebrews 8:1-2, KJV). This ministry in the true, heavenly sanctuary is the antitype of the earthly services. Further, Hebrews explains the necessity of this heavenly work: “It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:” (Hebrews 9:23-24, KJV). This points directly to the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, the very work Christ commenced in 1844. Sr. White confirms this with precision: “As the priests in the earthly sanctuary entered the most holy once a year to cleanse the sanctuary, Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make a final atonement for all who could be benefited by His mediation, and to cleanse the sanctuary.” (1 SG 162, as quoted in The Investigative Judgment in the Writings of Ellen G. White, p. IJWEGW 2.3, 1992). The understanding of this ministry is paramount: “The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest. Otherwise, it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith essential at this time, or to occupy the position which God designs them to fill.” (The Spirit of Prophecy Volume 4, p. 313, as quoted in The Investigative Judgment in the Writings of Ellen G. White, p. IJWEGW 3.3, 1992). But what profound truth does the commencement of the sealing work reveal?
PRESENT PURIFICATION!
The commencement of the sealing work in 1844, linked directly to the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary and the investigative judgment, reveals a profound truth: the seal of God is not merely about future protection from wrath, but critically about present purification and a deep, personal alignment with Christ’s final work of atonement. The seal involves present purification and alignment with Christ’s atonement. If 1844 marks the beginning of this final phase of heavenly ministry and the concurrent sealing message, then those who are to be sealed must be actively participating in the spiritual realities of this antitypical Day of Atonement. This involves diligent self-examination, heartfelt repentance, the forsaking of all known sin, and the purification of character through the merits of Christ’s blood and the power of the Holy Spirit. Scriptures further support this with “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1, KJV) and “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” (Hebrews 10:22, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest. Otherwise it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is essential at this time or to occupy the position which God designs them to fill.” (The Great Controversy, p. 488, 1911) and “The time of test is just upon us, for the loud cry of the third angel has already begun in the revelation of the righteousness of Christ, the sin-pardoning Saviour.” (Selected Messages Book 1, p. 363, 1958). The sealing, therefore, is a present truth with immediate and pressing requirements for every soul. This understanding imbues the entire period since 1844 with immense solemnity and significance. It is not a mere passage of time but a special epoch of spiritual preparation, a time for character refinement under the searching light of the investigative judgment. This perspective also provides a theological framework for understanding why Christ has not yet returned; it is a period graciously extended for this vital sealing work to be fully accomplished among His people worldwide. It calls for a heightened spiritual awareness and an earnestness in seeking a fitness for heaven. But what does the sacred mission of the Third Angel involve?
HARVEST OF SEPARATION!
The sacred mission of the Third Angel, whom we understand to be the sealing angel, involves a solemn and decisive work of differentiation, a divine selection process that separates the true from the false, the genuine from the counterfeit, within the professed Christian world. The mission separates wheat from tares through divine selection. Sr. White was shown this momentous operation with striking clarity: “I then saw the third angel. Said my accompanying angel, ‘Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission. He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal, or bind, the wheat for the heavenly garner. These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention.’” (Early Writings, p. 118, 1882). This powerful imagery, drawn directly from Christ’s own profound parables, particularly the parable of the wheat and tares recorded in Matthew 13:24-30 and explained in verses 36-43, portrays a crucial period where true ones, the precious “wheat,” are identified, distinguished, and securely bound (sealed) for eternal life in God’s kingdom. Simultaneously, those who are not genuine followers, despite their outward profession—the “tares”—are identified for their ultimate destiny of destruction. This divine sealing is not an arbitrary act; it is based on a developed character, one that faithfully reflects the truth of God as it is in Jesus. In another deeply symbolic vision, Sr. White beheld this process: “I saw a little company traveling a narrow pathway. All seemed to be firmly united, bound together by the truth, in bundles, or companies. Said the angel, ‘The third angel is binding, or sealing, them in bundles for the heavenly garner.’” (Early Writings, p. 88, 1882). The emphasis here on being “bound together by the truth” underscores a critical point: adherence to God’s revealed will, embracing His full and unadulterated truth, is absolutely central to being counted among the “wheat” destined for the “heavenly garner.” Scriptures further support this with “Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” (Matthew 13:30, KJV) and “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof… Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.” (Ezekiel 9:4, 6, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The wheat and tares “grow together until the harvest.” In the discharge of life’s duties the righteous will to the last be brought in contact with the ungodly. The children of light are scattered among the children of darkness, that the contrast may be seen.” (Last Day Events, p. 231, 1992) and “The wheat and tares grow up together for the harvest.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 113, 1958). The sealing, therefore, is the divine affirmation, the heavenly ratification, of a life lived in consistent harmony with divine truth, resulting in a character that has been purified and made fit for the courts of heaven. The parable itself states, “Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” (Matthew 13:30, KJV). This harvest-time separation finds its ultimate antitypical fulfillment in the work of the sealing angel. A striking Old Testament parallel is found in Ezekiel’s vision: “And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof… Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.” (Ezekiel 9:4, 6, KJV). This marking for protection amidst judgment is a powerful type of the final sealing work. Sr. White directly links the seal to a transformed life: “The seal of the living God will be placed upon those only who bear a likeness to Christ in character.” (The Review and Herald, May 21, 1895, as quoted in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957). And this character is developed through a specific spiritual experience: “Only those who, in their attitude before God, are filling the position of those who are repenting and confessing their sins in the great antitypical day of atonement, will be recognized and marked as worthy of God’s protection.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 445, 1923). But how is this divine selection facilitated?
TRUTH PROCLAMATION FOCUS!
While the sealing work involves this divine selection and the binding of the faithful based on their developed, truth-transformed character, this entire process is directly facilitated and brought to its crucial focus by the clear, unambiguous, and urgent proclamation of specific, non-negotiable truths contained within the Third Angel’s Message. Proclamation of truths within the Third Angel’s Message accomplishes the sealing. Scriptures further support this with “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32, KJV) and “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (John 17:17, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages has been located by the Word of Inspiration. Not a peg or pin is to be removed.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 587, 1958) and “The three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12 exclaim God’s last warnings to the impenitent world in preparation for the glorious second coming of Christ.” (The Three Angels’ Messages, p. 2, unknown year). This sets the stage for the core pillars of the message.
COMMANDMENTS AND FAITH!
The Third Angel’s Message, the divine instrument that accomplishes the sealing of God’s servants, is not a nebulous or ambiguous call to general piety; rather, it is a precise, powerful, and pointed declaration centered on two immutable pillars: unwavering obedience to the eternal commandments of God and a steadfast, living faith in Jesus Christ. The message balances obedience and faith as divine pillars. Sr. White was clearly shown that the Third Angel, “proclaiming the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, represents the people who receive this message and raise the voice of warning to the world, to keep the commandments of God as the apple of the eye.” (Testimonies for the Church Volume 1, p. 77, 1868). This message, therefore, is a divine directive, a heavenly mandate, to restore the sanctity and binding claims of God’s holy law, particularly the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, which has been so widely disregarded and trampled underfoot by the traditions of men. “The third angel’s message calls for the presentation of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, and this truth must be brought before the world,” Sr. White emphatically states. Yet, with equal force and critical importance, she immediately adds a vital caveat: “but the great center of attraction, Christ Jesus, must not be left out.” (Evangelism, p. 184, 1946). The faith of Jesus, as presented in this message, encompasses His spotless righteousness imputed to the believing sinner and imparted for holy living, His all-sufficient atoning sacrifice on Calvary’s cross, and His omnipotent power to save completely and eternally all who come to God by Him. Scriptures further support this with “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Revelation 12:17, KJV) and “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” (Revelation 12:11, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The third angel’s message is the proclamation of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. The commandments of God have been proclaimed, but the faith of Jesus Christ has not been proclaimed by Seventh-day Adventists as of equal importance, the law and the gospel going hand in hand. I cannot find language to express this subject in its fullness.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 172, 1980) and “What constitutes the faith of Jesus, that belongs to the third angel’s message? Jesus becoming our sin-bearer that He might become our sin-pardoning Saviour. He was treated as we deserve to be treated. He came to our world and took our sins that we might take His righteousness. Faith in the ability of Christ to save us amply and fully and entirely is the faith of Jesus.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 172, 1980). Thus, the sealing message is a beautiful, harmonious blend of law and gospel—God’s righteous standard and Christ’s enabling grace—a divine call to a life of loving obedience, empowered and sustained by a living, active faith in the world’s Redeemer. The characteristics of God’s end-time people are clearly delineated in Scripture: “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Revelation 12:17, KJV). Their victory is also described: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” (Revelation 12:11, KJV). This shows that keeping the commandments is coupled with reliance on Christ’s sacrifice and faithful witness. Sr. White underscores the inseparable nature of these two components in the Third Angel’s Message: “The third angel’s message is the proclamation of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus Christ. The commandments of God have been proclaimed, but the faith of Jesus Christ has not been proclaimed by Seventh-day Adventists as of equal importance, the law and the gospel going hand in hand. I cannot find language to express this subject in its fullness.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 172, 1980). She then defines the “faith of Jesus” component with beautiful simplicity: “What constitutes the faith of Jesus, that belongs to the third angel’s message? Jesus becoming our sin-bearer that He might become our sin-pardoning Saviour. He was treated as we deserve to be treated. He came to our world and took our sins that we might take His righteousness. Faith in the ability of Christ to save us amply and fully and entirely is the faith of Jesus.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 172, 1980). But what profound implication does this dual emphasis carry?
SYNERGISTIC RELATIONSHIP!
The consistent, dual emphasis on “the commandments of God AND the faith of Jesus” within the Third Angel’s Message—which is the sealing message—carries a profound implication. The dual emphasis signifies a synergistic relationship between law and faith. It signifies that the divine seal is not obtained through a mere legalistic observance of rules, devoid of heart-felt love and reliance on Christ. Neither is it secured through a professed faith that conveniently disregards or dismisses the binding claims of God’s holy commandments. Instead, the seal is impressed upon those who experience a synergistic, living relationship between these two divine principles. Scriptures further support this with “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” (1 John 5:3, KJV) and “Therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” (Romans 13:10, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The faith of Jesus embraces the gospel, the teachings of Christ. The commandments are those of God. They are one and the same in principle.” (In Defense of the Faith, p. 227, unknown year) and “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus are both important, immensely important, and must be given with equal force and power.” (Selected Messages Book 3, p. 1090, 1980). True, saving faith in Jesus Christ will inevitably empower and motivate a life of loving obedience to God’s law. Conversely, genuine obedience to God’s commandments serves as the visible evidence, the unmistakable fruit, of a true and living faith. The character prepared for the seal, therefore, is one that has been profoundly transformed by both God’s righteous standard, as revealed in His law, and Christ’s enabling, sanctifying power, as apprehended through faith. But how does this insight safeguard against extremes?
SAFEGUARD AGAINST EXTREMES!
This vital insight acts as a divine safeguard against the dangerous extremes of cold legalism on one hand, and presumptuous antinomianism (lawlessness) on the other. The insight safeguards against legalism and lawlessness. It presents a balanced, thoroughly biblical path to genuine holiness and readiness for Christ’s soon appearing. It calls every one to a deep, experiential understanding of both the immutable claims of the law and the infinite provisions of the gospel, recognizing that they are not in conflict but are perfectly harmonized in the person and work of Jesus Christ, and in the life of the Spirit-filled one. Scriptures further support this with “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV) and “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” (Romans 3:31, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Justification by faith is God’s way of saving sinners; His way of convicting sinners of their guilt, their condemnation, and their utterly undone and lost condition.” (Christ Our Righteousness, p. 397, 1926) and “While we are to be in harmony with God’s law, we are not saved by the works of the law, yet we cannot be saved without obedience.” (Faith and Works, p. 473, 1979). This balanced path leads to the profound love expressed in the sealing message.
COMPASSIONATE INTERVENTION!
How, one might ask, do these seemingly stern and weighty concepts of a divine sealing, an impending judgment, and the call for unwavering obedience to God’s law reflect the boundless, tender love of our Heavenly Father? God’s love reflects through warnings and protection in the sealing work. It is precisely because God is love, as the apostle John so beautifully declares—”He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:8, KJV) —that He sends such messages of solemn warning and provides a distinct way of escape and divine protection for His children. The entire sealing work, when viewed through the lens of Calvary, reveals itself not as an act of arbitrary selection, but as an initiative of profound divine mercy, a loving Father’s earnest endeavor to secure His precious children before the final, devastating tempest of righteous wrath engulfs a world that has chosen rebellion over allegiance. Our God does not delight in the destruction of the wicked; His heart yearns for all to come to repentance and find salvation (Ezekiel 33:11; 2 Peter 3:9). The very command issued by the sealing angel, “Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads” (Revelation 7:3, KJV) , is a powerful testament to His longsuffering patience, a divine pause in the march of judgment, orchestrated by infinite love to allow for the full completion of His saving, sealing work. Even the Sabbath itself, which we understand to be the very seal of the living God, is a gift born of love—a sacred memorial of His magnificent creative power and an enduring sign of His sanctifying grace, inviting us into a weekly, joyous communion and restorative rest with Him. Sr. White beautifully encapsulates this divine motivation, showing how the law and the gospel, warning and mercy, find their meeting point in Christ: faith of a little child he must trust in the merits of the Saviour, accepting His righteousness, believing in His mercy.” (Lift Him Up, p. 161, 1892). Scriptures further support this with “The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty…” (Exodus 34:6-7, KJV) and “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy… But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;” (Psalm 103:8, 17, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “We read that “the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,” and that God “is longsuffering to usward not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Longsuffering, therefore, is patience, forbearance.” (The Medical Missionary, vol. 13, p. 326.7, 1898) and “Let the teacher of truth make known to the sinner what God really is—a Father waiting with yearning love to receive the returning prodigal, not hurling at him accusations of wrath, but preparing a feast to welcome his return. O that we might all learn the way of the Lord in winning souls!” (Lift Him Up, p. 161, 1892). God’s love, therefore, is not a sentimental, passive indulgence of sin, but a holy, active, redeeming love that calls us to righteousness, warns us of danger, and provides every conceivable means for our salvation, even through urgent, final warnings designed to awaken us from spiritual slumber. When God revealed His character to Moses, He proclaimed Himself as, “The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty…” (Exodus 34:6-7, KJV). This divine self-revelation perfectly captures the essence of the sealing message: His mercy and longsuffering are immeasurable, providing this final opportunity for sealing, yet His justice remains, and a distinction will be made. The psalmist echoes this, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy… But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;” (Psalm 103:8, 17, KJV). God’s enduring, steadfast mercy is the very foundation of His dealings with humanity, including the gracious provision of the sealing work in these last days. Sr. White draws a parallel to God’s past longsuffering: “We read that “the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,” and that God “is longsuffering to usward not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Longsuffering, therefore, is patience, forbearance.” (The Medical Missionary, vol. 13, p. 326.7, 1898). Furthermore, the spirit of this warning message is not one of condemnation but of invitation: “Let the teacher of truth make known to the sinner what God really is—a Father waiting with yearning love to receive the returning prodigal, not hurling at him accusations of wrath, but preparing a feast to welcome his return. O that we might all learn the way of the Lord in winning souls!” (Lift Him Up, p. 161, 1892). The urgent calls of the three angels, culminating in the sealing work, are expressions of this yearning, fatherly love, seeking to bring His wayward children home before the door of mercy is forever closed. But how is God’s love expressed in the sealing message?
DYNAMIC PROTECTIVE LOVE!
The love of God, as profoundly expressed in the sealing message, is far from a passive, detached sentiment. God’s love acts dynamically through intervention and warnings. It is a dynamic, proactive, protective, and purifying love. It actively intervenes in human affairs, as seen by the angel halting the winds of destruction. It lovingly warns of impending dangers and calls humanity back to the path of obedience and life. It graciously provides the means for identification and security—the Sabbath as His sacred seal, and the righteousness of Christ apprehended through the “faith of Jesus.” Scriptures further support this with “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, KJV) and “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jeremiah 31:3, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The eye of God, looking down the ages, was fixed upon the crisis which His people are to meet, when earthly powers shall be arrayed against them.” (The Great Controversy, p. 2769, 1911) and “The world is soon to be left by the angel of mercy and the seven last plagues are to be poured out. The bolts of God’s wrath are soon to fall.” (Last Day Events, p. 1545, 1992). These are not static attributes but vibrant, active demonstrations of a love that relentlessly seeks the highest, eternal good for its objects. But what does this robust understanding challenge?
HOLY REDEEMING LOVE!
This more robust understanding of God’s love challenges superficial, sentimental notions of divine affection that are so prevalent today. Understanding portrays a love invested in eternal well-being. It portrays a love that is deeply, personally invested in our eternal well-being, a love so profound that it is willing to deliver stern warnings and require difficult, counter-cultural choices if those are necessary for our salvation. Such a love calls not for casual presumption or a careless disregard of divine requirements, but for a response of heartfelt gratitude, humble repentance, and joyful, willing obedience. Scriptures further support this with “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” (Revelation 3:19, KJV) and “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” (Hebrews 12:6, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Our spiritual strength and blessing will be proportionate to the labor of love and good works which we perform.” (That I May Know Him, p. 334, 1964) and “God has a church upon the earth who are His chosen people, who keep His commandments.” (Counsels for the Church, p. 1852, 1991). This calls for wholehearted consecration in view of these truths.
RESPONSIBILITY TO GOD!
In the searching light of these profound and eternal truths—the undeniable reality of an impending close of probation, the awesome solemnity of the ongoing sealing work, and the clear, scriptural identification of God’s holy Sabbath as His seal—what, then, is my most pressing personal responsibility, our collective and urgent duty, toward the God who has revealed such wonders? Responsibility demands wholehearted consecration and obedience. It is nothing less than a clarion call to wholehearted, unreserved consecration, to unswerving, joyful obedience to His revealed will, and to unwavering faithfulness that endures even unto death, should that be our lot. The ancient yet ever-relevant command echoes through the corridors of time, finding its most potent application in these last moments: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13, KJV). This “fear” is not a servile, cringing dread but a profound, adoring reverence that naturally blossoms into joyful obedience. With the apostle Paul, we are earnestly besought, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2, KJV). This deep, internal transformation, this renewing of the mind, is absolutely essential for the development of a character upon which the divine seal—the mark of a perfected, Christ-like nature—can be impressed. Sr. White powerfully summarizes our sacred obligation in view of God’s law: “As the Supreme Ruler of the universe, God has ordained laws for the government not only of all living beings, but of all the operations of nature… To man alone, the crowning work of His creation, God has given a conscience to realize the sacred claims of the divine law, and a heart capable of loving it as holy, just, and good; and of man prompt and perfect obedience is required. Yet God does not compel him to obey; he is left a free moral agent.” (Selected Messages Book 1, p. 216, 1958). Scriptures further support this with “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22, KJV) and “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The ten commandments, Thou shalt, and Thou shalt not, are ten promises, assured to us if we render obedience to the law governing the universe. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Here is the sum and substance of the law of God. The terms of salvation for every son and daughter of Adam are here outlined.” (Manuscript 41, 1897, 1897) and “God has given us His commandments, not only to be believed in, but to be obeyed… No one who disregards the fourth commandment, after becoming enlightened concerning the claims of the Sabbath, can be held guiltless in the sight of God.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 247, 1876). My response, therefore, our response, must be a conscious, deliberate, daily choice to align our will with God’s sovereign will, to cherish His holy law as the transcript of His character, and to earnestly seek the transforming power of His indwelling Spirit, that we might indeed be found sealed among His faithful, loyal servants when He makes up His jewels. The prophet Samuel posed a timeless question that cuts to the heart of our responsibility: “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22, KJV). This underscores God’s unchanging priority: heartfelt obedience stemming from a loving relationship is infinitely more precious to Him than the most elaborate outward religious forms or professions. When human authorities command what contradicts divine law, our responsibility is clear, as articulated by the apostles: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29, KJV). This establishes the ultimate allegiance owed to God, particularly in these critical times when the final test of loyalty will revolve around His commandments. Sr. White presents our obedience not as a burdensome duty but as a response to God’s loving promises: “The ten commandments, Thou shalt, and Thou shalt not, are ten promises, assured to us if we render obedience to the law governing the universe. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Here is the sum and substance of the law of God. The terms of salvation for every son and daughter of Adam are here outlined.” (Manuscript 41, 1897, as quoted in EGW SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 1, p. 1105, 1953). She also stresses the active nature of our responsibility, especially concerning the Sabbath truth: “God has given us His commandments, not only to be believed in, but to be obeyed… No one who disregards the fourth commandment, after becoming enlightened concerning the claims of the Sabbath, can be held guiltless in the sight of God.” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 247, 1876). But how does responsibility to God extend beyond avoiding sin?
ACTIVE CULTIVATION!
Our responsibility to God, particularly in the solemn context of the sealing message, transcends merely avoiding overt acts of sin. Responsibility involves active cultivation of Christ-like character. It involves the active, intentional cultivation of a character that deeply reflects His law of love and truth. This is not a human achievement but a divine work, enabled by His Spirit, which makes us sealable. The seal of God, as we have seen, is placed upon those who possess a Christ-like character, who keep God’s commandments not as a burdensome yoke but as a joyful expression of love, and who hold fast to the pure faith of Jesus. This implies far more than passive avoidance of evil; it necessitates an active, daily engagement in the development of righteousness. Sr. White’s call to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind” and to render “prompt and perfect obedience” points to an ongoing, dynamic process of consecration, spiritual growth, and active cooperation with divine agencies. It is not a one-time decision that guarantees the seal, nor is it achieved by merely adhering to a checklist of prohibitions. Scriptures further support this with “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18, KJV) and “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Children are to learn to obey in the family government. They are to form a symmetrical character that God can approve, maintaining law in the home life.” (Child Guidance, p. 367, 1954) and “The children are to be taught that their capabilities were given them for the honor and glory of God. To this end they must learn the lesson of obedience.” (Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, p. 516, 1913). This understanding shifts our entire focus from a fear-based, reluctant compliance to a love-motivated, character-driven pursuit of holiness. It leads us to recognize that the sealing is the divine affirmation, the heavenly endorsement, of a life that has been fully and unreservedly surrendered to God’s transforming power. Consequently, personal spiritual growth, deep and prayerful Bible study, and a consistent application of truth to daily life become matters of paramount importance, not as means to earn salvation, but as the natural outflow of a heart captivated by divine love and earnestly preparing to meet the King. But how do these truths extend beyond personal consecration?
RESPONSIBILITY TO NEIGHBORS!
The profound, life-altering truths of the sealing message, while deeply personal in their insistent call to individual consecration and holiness, are never intended to terminate upon ourselves, creating islands of isolated piety. Truths overflow in compassionate action toward neighbors. A genuine, transformative experience with God’s amazing grace and His eternal truth inevitably overflows in streams of compassionate action and earnest solicitude towards our neighbors, our fellow travelers on this earthly pilgrimage. Our responsibility, therefore, extends far beyond the sphere of our own salvation; it embraces an earnest, prayerful laboring for the temporal well-being and eternal enlightenment of those around us, those who may be stumbling in darkness, unaware of the loving provision God has made. The beloved apostle John, who leaned on Jesus’ bosom and drank deeply from the well of divine love, urges us with tender earnestness: “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18, KJV). This practical, tangible love, expressed through selfless actions rather than mere eloquent professions, is the undeniable hallmark of true, heaven-born discipleship. We are explicitly called to “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, KJV) , and further, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10, KJV). This “doing good” is a broad commission, encompassing not only the faithful sharing of the precious, soul-saving truths of the final warning message—the three angels’ messages in their fullness—but also a compassionate ministering to the temporal needs of suffering humanity, thereby reflecting the selfless, sacrificial example of our blessed Master, who “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38). Sr. White eloquently summarizes this sacred duty, linking it directly to our spiritual vitality and the keeping of God’s commandments: “Our spiritual strength and blessing will be proportionate to the labor of love and good works which we perform. The injunction of the apostle is, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Keeping the commandments of God requires of us good works, self-denial, self-sacrifice, and devotion for the good of others, not that our good works alone can save us, but that we surely cannot be saved without good works.” (That I May Know Him, p. 334, 1964). Scriptures further support this with “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27, KJV) and “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Let those who have been remiss in this work consider their duty in the light of the great commandment… All are required to labor to diminish the ills and multiply the blessings of their fellow creatures… We must work for others’ good. Let all within the sphere of our influence be partakers of whatever of excellence we may possess. None should be content to feed on the bread of life without sharing it with those around them.” (Testimony Treasures, vol. 2, p. 249, 1949) and “The spirit of unselfish labor for others gives depth, stability, and Christlike loveliness to the character and brings peace and happiness to its possessor… Those who are watching for souls, who devote themselves most fully to the salvation of the erring, are most surely working out their own salvation.” (Testimony Treasures, vol. 2, p. 250, 1949). Thus, my solemn responsibility to my neighbor, and ours collectively, is to become a clear and unobstructed conduit of God’s infinite love and His saving truth, actively seeking to alleviate suffering wherever we find it, and to share with unwavering conviction the life-giving message that alone can prepare souls for a blissful eternity in God’s presence. The apostle James defines the essence of true religion in strikingly practical terms: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27, KJV). This active care for the vulnerable and needy is a direct outflow of a heart touched by divine love. The writer to the Hebrews adds, “But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16, KJV). Our acts of kindness and our willingness to share what we have—both materially and spiritually—are sacrifices that bring pleasure to our Heavenly Father. Sr. White issues a direct and personal call to this responsibility: “Let those who have been remiss in this work consider their duty in the light of the great commandment… All are required to labor to diminish the ills and multiply the blessings of their fellow creatures… We must work for others’ good. Let all within the sphere of our influence be partakers of whatever of excellence we may possess. None should be content to feed on the bread of life without sharing it with those around them.” (Testimony Treasures, vol. 2, p. 249, 1949). She further links this unselfish service directly to our own spiritual development and assurance: “The spirit of unselfish labor for others gives depth, stability, and Christlike loveliness to the character and brings peace and happiness to its possessor… Those who are watching for souls, who devote themselves most fully to the salvation of the erring, are most surely working out their own salvation.” (Testimony Treasures, vol. 2, p. 250, 1949). But what crucial understanding emerges from this responsibility?
INTEGRAL PREPARATION!
A crucial understanding emerges from this: our responsibility to our neighbor, particularly in the context of the urgent sealing message, becomes an integral and indispensable part of our own preparation for receiving that divine seal. Responsibility to neighbors prepares for the seal. The acts of sharing the truth, demonstrating God’s love through practical kindness, and laboring for the salvation of others are not merely optional extras for the exceptionally zealous; they are essential components of developing a “sealed” character. The Third Angel’s Message, by its very nature, is a truth that must be proclaimed to “every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.” Sr. White’s assertion that those who are “watching for souls…are most surely working out their own salvation” reveals a divine synergy. The “faith of Jesus,” which is a core element of the sealing message, is not a passive, introspective belief; it is an active, outward-reaching faith that compels us to share the good news. Scriptures further support this with “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, KJV) and “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Come Close to Your Neighbors—Go to your neighbors one by one, and come close to them till their hearts are warmed by your unselfish interest and love.” (Welfare Ministry, p. 367, 1952) and “The spirit of unselfish labor for others gives depth, stability, and Christlike loveliness to the character and brings peace and happiness to its possessor.” (Welfare Ministry, p. 1372, 1952). Therefore, engaging in missional work and consistent acts of love towards others is not simply a duty performed after one is sealed, but a vital, character-shaping part of the process of being prepared for and receiving the seal of God. This elevates the sacred work of outreach or service, to a new level of significance. It is not just a means of potentially saving others, but a divinely appointed path for their own spiritual maturity, character refinement, and ultimate readiness for Christ’s glorious return. It transforms mission from a mere task or program into a character-building imperative, a vital expression of a heart being prepared for heaven’s society. But how do we contemplate these solemn truths?
PERSONAL APPLICATION!
As I, and indeed all of us who have been called to understand these solemn truths, contemplate the profound realities of the sealing message, the question presses upon each individual soul with an urgency that cannot be overstated: Am I earnestly, diligently, and prayerfully seeking this divine seal, this mark of God’s ownership and approval? Personal examination ensures alignment with divine will. Is the Sabbath truly a delight to me, a sacred island of time in the stormy sea of life, a genuine sign of my unwavering allegiance to the Creator of the heavens and the earth? Am I, on a daily basis, surrendering my will to God, allowing His Holy Spirit to undertake the deep, transforming work of molding my character into the perfect likeness of Christ?. The path, as Sr. White was shown in vision, is indeed narrow, traveled by a “little company” (Early Writings, p. 88, 1882) , and it undeniably requires constant vigilance, unceasing prayer, and a diligent, prayerful study of His Word to ensure that I, that we, are not subtly swayed by the myriad deceptions and plausible-sounding errors that characterize these last, perilous days. I must honestly ask myself, and we must ask ourselves collectively, if my life, our lives, truly reflect the “patience of the saints,” and if I am, in both letter and spirit, faithfully keeping “the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12, KJV). This personal inventory is not a matter for casual reflection but for deep, heart-searching examination before God. The Holy Spirit is promised to those who ask, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” (Ephesians 1:13, KJV). And we are admonished, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30, KJV). Scriptures further support this with “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22, KJV) and “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “Only those who receive the seal of the living God will have the passport through the gates of the Holy City.” (The SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957) and “An angel with a writer’s inkhorn by his side returned from the earth and reported to Jesus that his work was done, and the saints were numbered and sealed.” (Early Writings, p. 279, 1882). But what tremendous responsibility does the community bear?
COMMUNAL UNITY!
As a community entrusted with the sacred oracles of truth, we bear a tremendous, almost overwhelming, responsibility. Community focuses on unity bound by truth. We are called to be the very “people who receive this message and raise the voice of warning to the world” (Testimonies for the Church Volume 1, p. 77, 1868). Our unity, if it is to be effective and God-honoring, must be forged in the crucible of truth, “bound together by the truth” for the heavenly garner. We must meticulously ensure that in our fervent proclamation of the Sabbath truth, that vital part of the sealing message, “the great center of attraction, Christ Jesus, must not be left out” (Gospel Workers, p. 156, 1915). Our collective efforts, our prayers, our resources, and our energies must be laser-focused on preparing a people to stand, sealed and secure, when the restraining hand is removed and the winds of strife are finally and irrevocably loosed upon an unprepared world. The sealing message powerfully underscores the critical, non-negotiable importance of character development. It is not merely an intellectual assent to a set of doctrines, however correct they may be, but a profound, radical transformation of the heart and life that prepares an individual for the impress of God’s holy seal. Sr. White states with solemn emphasis, “The seal of the living God will be placed upon those only who bear a likeness to Christ in character.” (The Review and Herald, May 21, 1895, as quoted in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957). The urgency of this work is palpable, almost tangible; the time allotted for this divine sealing is finite, taking place before the final, unmingled outpouring of God’s righteous wrath. This stark reality should impel each of us to seek God with all our hearts, to agonize in prayer for the latter rain, and to labor diligently, unceasingly, for souls who are perishing without this saving knowledge. Sr. White also confirms the Spirit’s role in this sealing: “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22, KJV, as reflected in her understanding of the Spirit’s work). And the call to holy living is constant: “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1, KJV). Sr. White further states, “Only those who receive the seal of the living God will have the passport through the gates of the Holy City.” (The SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957). And, “An angel with a writer’s inkhorn by his side returned from the earth and reported to Jesus that his work was done, and the saints were numbered and sealed.” (Early Writings, p. 279, 1882). But what are the practical implications of these truths?
PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS!
Consider the practical implications. Practical application fosters the sealing work in church and society. Within a church context, a congregation that prioritizes deep, practical Bible study focusing on the sanctuary message, the immutable Sabbath, and the three angels’ messages, coupled with earnest, heartfelt prayer meetings crying out for spiritual revival and genuine character transformation, is a church actively participating in and fostering the sealing work. When members lovingly and gently hold each other accountable, supporting one another in overcoming besetting sins and cultivating the fruits of the Spirit, they are reflecting the precious unity of that “little company” journeying on the narrow way. In a broader societal context, in a world increasingly saturated with misinformation, relativism, and fleeting, superficial pleasures, the consistent, calm, and reasoned presentation of the Sabbath truth as God’s unchanging memorial of creation and sign of redemption stands as a powerful, counter-cultural witness. Christians who demonstrate unwavering integrity, Christ-like compassion, and steadfast faith in their workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities, even when facing opposition or ridicule, become living epistles of the sealing message, read and known by all. Scriptures further support this with “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” (1 Corinthians 13:13, KJV) and “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The Scripture says, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 587, 1958) and “The third angel’s message is a sure, solid platform; and differences of opinion must be yielded to the working of this message.” (The Three Angels’ Messages, p. 112, unknown year). But how do these truths offer points for reflection?
REFLECTION AND ADAPTATION!
For us, these truths offer specific points for customization and deeper reflection. Truths call for adaptation and correction in diverse contexts. How can you, in your unique sphere of influence, adapt the presentation of these profound, and at times challenging, truths to resonate with individuals from diverse religious, cultural, or secular backgrounds whom you encounter daily? (Perhaps by using relatable analogies, focusing initially on universal themes of love, justice, the human search for truth and meaning, before introducing more specific doctrinal points). What are the common misunderstandings or prejudices you encounter regarding the Sabbath, the law of God, or end-time prophecies, and how can you, with Christ-like patience and biblical clarity, gently and effectively correct them? Beyond doctrinal instruction, which is vital, how can you effectively mentor and disciple new ones, as well as existing church members, in the practical, day-by-day aspects of character development that are so essential for receiving the divine seal? Scriptures further support this with “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20, KJV) and “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The three angels of Revelation 14:6-12. 1. No proclamation of the hour of God’s judgment come, has ever been made in any past age.” (The Three Angels of Revelation 14:6-12, p. 9, unknown year) and “The third angel’s message is to be set before them judiciously, in its true dignity. There must be most earnest seeking of God, most thorough study.” (The Three Angels’ Messages, p. 743, unknown year). But what is the sealing in essence?
DIVINE ACT AND RESPONSE!
The sealing is indeed a divine act, an impress of heavenly approval. Sealing combines divine affirmation with human response. Yet, it is also a profound human response. While it is God who ultimately applies the seal, it is placed upon those whose characters have been meticulously prepared through humble cooperation with the Holy Spirit, in response to the illuminating power of His truth. This is not a unilateral divine decree imposed upon passive recipients. Rather, the sealing is a divine recognition and affirmation of a heart that has been surrendered, a life that has been transformed, a character that has been refined in the furnace of earthly trial and polished by heavenly grace. Scriptures further support this with “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” (Ephesians 1:13, KJV) and “Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” (2 Corinthians 1:22, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “It is a mark which angels, but not human eyes, can read; for the destroying angel must see this mark of redemption.” (EGW SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 4, p. 282, 1955) and “When God’s servants reach this point, they will be sealed in their foreheads. The recording angel will declare, “It is done.” They will be complete in Him.” (Last Day Events, p. 1390, 1992). But how does this underscore the role of every one?
PARTICIPATORY ROLE!
This understanding underscores the active, participatory role of every one in their own salvation and in their preparation for the climactic events of earth’s final history. Understanding counters spiritual fatalism with active preparation. It powerfully counters any tendency towards spiritual fatalism or a passive, listless waiting for future events to unfold. It highlights the immense importance of “present truth”—not as a static set of beliefs, but as a dynamic, living reality that must be embraced, internalized, and lived out daily, with the promised help of the Holy Spirit. Scriptures further support this with “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Philippians 2:12, KJV) and “But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:5, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The angels of God in their messages to men represent time as very short.” (Maranatha, p. 393, 1976) and “The season of distress and anguish before us will require a faith that can endure weariness, delay, and hunger—a faith that will not faint, though severely tried.” (The Great Controversy, p. 2769, 1911). This leads to the awe-inspiring landscape of prophecy.
PROPHETIC LANDSCAPE!
We have traversed the awe-inspiring, and at times sobering, landscape of prophecy, identifying with scriptural and inspired certainty the sealing angel of Revelation 7 with the mighty Third Angel of Revelation 14—a celestial messenger bearing a final, urgent, and love-impelled call to a world teetering on the very precipice of eternity. Prophecy identifies the sealing angel with the Third Angel bearing urgent truths. We have seen, with a clarity that should thrill every receptive soul, that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment—that sacred institution born in Edenic perfection, the hallowed memorial of God’s magnificent creative power, and the enduring sign of His sanctifying grace—stands as the Seal of the living God, the unmistakable, distinguishing mark of His loyal, commandment-keeping people. This climactic sealing work, commencing with Christ’s historic entry into the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844, is a divine process, a meticulous work of selecting and securing the precious “wheat” for the heavenly garner. These are a people whose characters have been refined, whose lives are distinguished by their unwavering obedience to God’s holy commandments and their steadfast, living faith in Jesus, their Redeemer and King. Sr. White further elucidates “Had Adventists, after the great disappointment in 1844, held fast their faith, and followed on unitedly in the opening providence of God, receiving the message of the third angel and in the power of the Holy Spirit proclaiming it to the world, they would have seen the salvation of God, the Lord would have wrought mightily with their efforts, the work would have been completed, and Christ would have come ere this to receive His people to their reward.” (Maranatha, p. 393, 1976) and “The prophecy, more particularly the prophetic periods of Daniel, were not to be opened till the time of the end.” (Daniel and The Revelation, p. 2363, 1897). The apostle Paul speaks of such a sealing, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” (Ephesians 1:13, KJV). And again, “Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” (2 Corinthians 1:22, KJV). These verses, while speaking of the initial sealing by the Spirit at conversion, point to the ultimate fulfillment in the final sealing of God’s remnant people. But what does the sealing message offer in a convulsed world?
ASSURANCE AND HOPE!
In a world increasingly convulsed by uncertainty, fear, and the disintegration of foundational values, the sealing message, far from being a source of dread, offers profound, unshakable assurance and a radiant hope. The message assures God’s care and triumph. It reveals a God who is not distant or indifferent, but One who is meticulously, lovingly, and sovereignly working to secure His people, a divine Shepherd who intimately knows His sheep and indelibly marks them as His own cherished possession. The apostle Paul’s words resonate with powerful comfort: “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” (2 Timothy 2:19, KJV). This divine seal, this mark of heavenly approval, is nothing less than our passport through the pearly gates of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem. Though the path heavenward may indeed be narrow, and the trials along the way severe and testing, those who are sealed by the living God are under His special, omnipotent protection, supernaturally prepared and enabled to stand firm and unyielding through the final crisis, and to joyfully, triumphantly welcome their returning King. Sr. White encourages us with this vision: “I saw that the holy Sabbath is, and will be, the separating wall between the true Israel of God and unbelievers; and that the Sabbath is the great question to unite the hearts of God’s dear, waiting saints.” (Early Writings, p. 33, 1882). And concerning the character of those sealed, she states, “The great mass of professing Christians will meet with bitter disappointment in the day of God. They have not upon their foreheads the seal of the living God. Lukewarm and halfhearted, they dishonor God far more than the avowed unbeliever.” (Letter 121, 1903, as quoted in Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 970, 1957). This is a call to wholeheartedness. Scriptures further support this with “The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.” (Psalm 37:18, KJV) and “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” (Psalm 121:8, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “I saw that Satan bade his angels lay their snares especially for those who were looking for Christ’s second appearing and keeping all the commandments of God.” (Christian Experience and Teachings of Ellen G. White, p. 819, 1922) and “Satan is now using every device in this sealing time, to keep the minds of God’s people from the present, sealing truth; and to cause them to waver.” (The Present Truth, p. 1, 1849). But what is the call to every sincere one?
URGENT PREPARATION!
Therefore, to every sincere one, to every seeking soul who has heard this clarion call echoing from the pages of prophecy: The time is critically short. The call urges earnest preparation while mercy lingers. The momentous work of sealing is rapidly nearing its completion. As the accompanying angel declared to Sr. White regarding the Third Angel’s mission, “These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention.” (Early Writings, p. 118, 1882). Let us, therefore, with an urgency born of love and a holy reverence, flee to Christ, our all-sufficient Righteousness. Let us embrace His unadulterated truth with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and yield ourselves fully to His Holy Spirit, that He may perfect His beautiful character in us. Let us, with voices tremulous with love yet bold in conviction, raise the sound of warning, laboring for souls as those who must soon give an account before the judgment seat of Christ. May we each, by God’s infinite grace and our diligent cooperation, be found with the seal of the living God imprinted indelibly upon our foreheads, eagerly, joyfully awaiting the triumphant, universe-shaking cry, “It is done!” and the indescribably glorious appearing of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Scriptures further support this with “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” (Matthew 24:42, KJV) and “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 24:44, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The time of trouble, which is to increase until the end, is very near at hand. We have no time to lose.” (Last Day Events, p. 24, 1992) and “Satan is now using every device in this sealing time to keep the minds of God’s people from the present truth and to cause them to waver.” (Early Writings, p. 42, 1882). The decision, and the earnest, Spirit-empowered preparation, is ours to make, today, while mercy’s door is still ajar. But is the sealing message one of doom or deliverance?
DELIVERANCE AND VICTORY!
The sealing message, therefore, is ultimately not a message of doom but one of deliverance; not merely of warning, but of glorious hope and impending victory. The message assures deliverance and victory for the faithful. It assures every true one of God’s ultimate, decisive triumph in the great controversy between Christ and Satan, and it reveals His meticulous, tender care in identifying, preparing, and preserving a people for His eternal, blissful kingdom. While containing the most solemn warnings ever entrusted to mortals, its ultimate outcome for the faithful is eternal security, unimaginable joy, and an everlasting inheritance in a world made new. Scriptures further support this with “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57, KJV) and “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” (Titus 2:13, KJV). Sr. White further elucidates “The wheat and tares “grow together until the harvest.” In the discharge of life’s duties the righteous will to the last be brought in contact with the ungodly. The children of light are scattered among the children of darkness, that the contrast may be seen.” (Last Day Events, p. 231, 1992) and “The proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages has been located by the Word of Inspiration. Not a peg or pin is to be removed.” (Selected Messages Book 2, p. 587, 1958). This grand perspective allows us to engage with the often-misunderstood prophecies of the end times, not with a spirit of paralyzing fear or anxious dread, but with a motivating sense of holy urgency, a vibrant hope that anchors the soul, and an unshakeable confidence in God’s overarching, infallible plan. It encourages proactive, prayerful preparation and a joyful, expectant anticipation of the “blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.” (Revelation 7:2-3, KJV)
