“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4.
ABSTRACT
This article explores the prophetic warning against Babylon as a symbol of false religion and spiritual confusion, examining its origins, grandeur, guilt, and ultimate fall. It highlights God’s judgment on apostasy, the call to separate from deceptive systems, the consequences of rejecting divine truth, and the assurance of divine love amid correction. Through Scripture and inspired insights, it urges us to embrace obedience, personal devotion, and communal kindness while standing firm in eternal truth, preparing for Christ’s return.
BABYLON’S BANE!
We live in confusing times. Doubt and uncertainty are all around us. But prophecy speaks with a strong voice. It gives a warning about Babylon. Babylon is a symbol of false religion and spiritual confusion. Revelation 14:8 shouts, “And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” This is not the only time we hear this. Isaiah 21:9 says, “And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.” Revelation 18:2 also says it clearly, “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” This writing will look closely at what the Bible says against Babylon. We will see where Babylon started, how it seemed glorious in the past, and the big wrongs that led to its downfall. We will use the King James Version Bible. We will also use wise words from the Spirit of Prophecy. These truths show us God’s judgment against turning away from Him. But they also strongly call each person to have real faith and true love. We are at a very important time. As Sr. White says, “The world is stirred with the spirit of war. The prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in prophecy will come,—scenes of trouble such as the world has never witnessed.” (The Review and Herald, September 17, 1901). She also warns, “The time of test is now here. The cry of Babylon is fallen, is fallen, and is become the home of demons. It is a cage for every unclean and hated bird. This cry will be repeated until everyone still in Babylon is awake.” (Evangelism, 234). Unity among the community depends on a vital connection with Christ. The Bible supports this with verses like “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15). “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:11). Sr. White explains, “Babylon is said to be ‘the mother of harlots.’ By her daughters must be symbolized churches that cling to her doctrines and traditions, and follow her example of sacrificing the truth and the approval of God, in order to form an unlawful alliance with the world” (The Great Controversy, 382, 1911). She adds, “The message of Revelation 14, announcing the fall of Babylon, must apply to religious bodies that were once pure and have become corrupt” (The Great Controversy, 383, 1911). Let’s start this study with open hearts. Let’s be ready for both warnings and comfort from God. But how did this confusion originate in the first place?
FALL FORETOLD!
Babylon first appears in the Bible in Genesis 11:9. “Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.” Here, God confused languages at Babel. This event gave Babylon its meaning. The name “Babel” means confusion and disorder. Revelation 14:8 says Babylon will fall. This fall is the sure result for a system that has left God’s truth. We should understand that Babylon, called a woman in Revelation 17, is not just a city. It is a symbol of false and unfaithful religion. Genesis 10:10 tells us where this confusion began. “And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.” God is not the source of confusion. As 1 Corinthians 14:33 makes clear, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” Sr. White explains that this confusion has a spiritual meaning. “Babylon has been helping errors to grow. The errors and lies that started when Babel refused to obey Heaven have continued through time.” (The Southern Watchman, March 5, 1903). She further says, “Satan tries hard to show God in a wrong way. He twists the meaning of sin and the big fight between good and evil. His tricks make people think God’s law is not important. They feel free to sin. At the same time, he makes them think God is cruel and unfair.” (The Great Controversy, 567). Sr. White clearly says, “The term ‘Babylon’ comes from ‘Babel,’ and means confusion. In the Bible, it is used for all forms of false or untrue religion.” (The Great Controversy, 381). The Bible supports this with verses like “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction” (2 Peter 2:1). “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3). Sr. White warns, “Satan will work with all power and ‘with all deceivableness of unrighteousness.’ His working is plainly revealed by the rapidly increasing darkness, the multitudinous errors, heresies, and delusions of these last days” (The Great Controversy, 591, 1911). She emphasizes, “As we near the end of time, falsehood will be so mingled with truth, that only those who have the guidance of the Holy Spirit will be able to distinguish truth from error” (Manuscript Releases, vol. 7, 359, 1906). So, as we follow God, we must tell the true church apart from the deceiving ways of the world. But what was Babylon’s former splendor that masked its inner decay?
GRAND GLORY GONE!
The Old Testament shows Babylon in two very different ways. Isaiah 13:19 once praised its past greatness. “And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.” But this shining outside hid deep moral decay. Jeremiah 50:38 sadly says, “A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.” Babylon’s appeal, once like a bright light of power on earth, is now dark because it fought against God. Even Daniel, seeing its power, proudly said, Daniel 4:30, “The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?” But God’s plan for Babylon would not fail. Jeremiah 51:29 warns, “And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.” Jeremiah 51:7 gives a strong charge, “Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.” Babylon’s main sin was making all nations drink the wine of her false teachings (see The Great Controversy, 388). This shows her dangerous friendship with worldly powers. It shows she chose ideas against the clear words of the Bible. Sr. White further tells of Babylon’s deceiving charm. She says, “By using spiritualism, strange works will happen. Sick people will get well, and amazing wonders will be done. And because these spirits will say they believe the Bible, and seem to respect church ways, people will think their work is from God.” (The Great Controversy, 588). She also warns how hidden and strong false teachings can be. “The world is getting drunk on Babylon’s wine. Churches are quickly becoming bad. Satan will use his false wonders to fool even God’s chosen ones, if possible.” (The Signs of the Times, December 23, 1890). The Bible supports this with verses like “For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy” (Revelation 16:6). “And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth” (Revelation 18:24). Sr. White declares, “The greatest deception of all will be the attempt to prove that the Bible sanctions Sunday observance” (Review and Herald, April 14, 1903). She affirms, “The Scriptures plainly show that the work of sanctification is progressive. When in conversion the sinner finds peace with God through the blood of the atonement, the Christian life has but just begun” (The Great Controversy, 470, 1911). This deep corruption calls for God’s judgment. It also calls God’s faithful people to stay strong. But what specific wrongs demand such a divine call to action?
INDICTMENT ISSUED!
Babylon is guilty of a serious wrong. She “made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” This picture, like a painted image, as The Great Controversy (388) explains, is about the tempting pull of false ideas that ruin true faith. Because of this great sin, Jeremiah 51:6 tells us about God’s urgent call to His people. It is a call to turn away and leave this spiritual pollution. “Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.” Thinking about this serious truth, we recall the important warning. “Being friends with the world is being against God. So whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself God’s enemy.” James 4:4. This call to leave is also in Revelation 18:4. “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” The need to obey God’s command is shown again in 2 Corinthians 6:17. “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” Sr. White makes it clear what this separation means. She says, “The call is to come out of Babylon. You must separate from everything worldly and unholy. You must leave confusion, fighting, and uncertainty. You must stand on the strong base of lasting truth.” (The Review and Herald, August 23, 1906). She also stresses that each person must listen to this call. “Each of us must answer the call, ‘Come out of Babylon.’ ” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, 40). Sr. White strongly says, “Because of the great sin and spiritual darkness there, Babylon is called ‘the home of demons. It is a cage for every unclean and hated bird.’” (The Great Controversy, 388). The Bible supports this with verses like “Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day” (Jeremiah 44:6). “And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall” (Jeremiah 51:44). Sr. White states, “We are to stand firm and maintain our allegiance to God, to be obedient to all His commandments, to be diligent students of the Scriptures, to avoid every vestige of evil” (Review and Herald, April 14, 1903). She urges, “God’s people are called in this hour of peril to stand firm in the grand old truths, and to adorn their profession by a holy life” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). This call from God is both a strong warning and a loving invite to come back to real worship. But what dual nature does spiritual Babylon reveal in its depraved condition?
SPIRITUAL SEDUCTION!
Revelation 17:5 shows another side of Babylon. “And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” Here, she gets another name—spiritual Babylon. This name shows her wrong link with “the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:2; The Great Controversy, 382). The apostle Paul, in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, describes how bad fallen Babylon is. It is full of lies and lawlessness. The spirit of fighting against God is working there. “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, unless there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” Looking closer at Revelation 17, we see how she looks. Revelation 17:3 says, “So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.” Her outward beauty is described in Revelation 17:4. “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.” Paul warns that “the man of sin” will come with worldly power. This reminds us of the false claims of Romanism. In Romanism, the Pope is called “Lord God the Pope.” He is said to be perfect in his teaching (The Great Controversy, 50). Sr. White says spiritual Babylon is really about the papacy. She states, “In Revelation 17, Babylon is shown as a woman. She is dressed in purple and bright red. She has gold, jewels, and pearls. She holds a gold cup full of disgusting and dirty things from her sins of unfaithfulness. ‘The kings of the earth have been unfaithful with her. The people of the earth have become drunk with the wine of her unfaithfulness.’ [Revelation 17:4, 2.] Anyone can see that this picture is like the papacy.” (The Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 4, 233). She also tells how strong this system’s deceiving power is. “Satan will use two big mistakes to trick people: the idea that souls never die and the idea that Sunday is holy. The first one makes people believe in spiritualism. The second makes them feel close to Rome.” (The Great Controversy, 588). The Bible supports this with verses like “And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire” (Revelation 17:16). “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20). Sr. White explains, “The papacy has attempted to change the law of God. The second commandment, forbidding image worship, has been dropped from the law, and the fourth commandment has been so changed as to authorize the observance of the first instead of the seventh day as the Sabbath” (The Great Controversy, 446, 1911). She warns, “The Scriptures plainly show that the work of sanctification is progressive. When in conversion the sinner finds peace with God through the blood of the atonement, the Christian life has but just begun” (The Great Controversy, 470, 1911). Thinking deeply, we see that these wrong ideas not only mislead us. They also keep sin going, which is very different from God’s simple truth. But what dire fate awaits those who turn from divine revelation?
REJECTING REVELATION’S REPERCUSSIONS!
When Rome turned away from God’s Word, terrible things happened. “There is no truth, no kindness, no knowing God in the land. People lie, swear falsely, kill, steal, and commit adultery. They are out of control, and murder follows murder.” (The Great Controversy, 60). This strong judgment shows the awful results of leaving God’s rules. But even in this ruin, we have a sure base. Psalm 119:105 says clearly, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Isaiah 8:20 tells us, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Hosea the prophet sadly tells what happens when people ignore God’s knowledge. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed because they don’t know me. Because you have turned away from knowing me, I will also turn away from you. You will not be my priests. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.” Proverbs 29:18 also warns, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Sr. White makes clear how vital the Bible is. She writes, “God has given clear proof in His word that He will punish those who break His law. Those who think He is too loving to punish sinners should look at Jesus dying on the cross. The death of God’s perfect Son shows that ‘the payment for sin is death.’ It shows that every breaking of God’s law must be paid for fully.” (The Great Controversy, 540). She also stresses that each person must read and follow the Bible. “God’s word is what keeps us safe. We must build our lives on Christ, the strong Rock. Everyone who obeys His word will build safely.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, 162). The Bible supports this with verses like “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth” (Psalm 119:142). “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever” (Psalm 119:160). Sr. White affirms, “The Bible is the only infallible authority in religion, and it is only by its teachings that we can test religious experience” (Review and Herald, April 25, 1893). She declares, “The word of God is the only steadfast thing our world knows. It is the sure foundation” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). With these sure words, we can fight the deceiving pull of false ideas. We can keep our faith safe on God’s lasting truth. Only in the Bible can we find the steady guide we need for the dangerous fight of faith. But how does divine affection persist even through correction?
LOVE LINGERS IN JUDGMENT!
Even when God judges and warns us, His great love shines. He allows Babylon to fall, but He gives us a sure base—His holy Word. This shows He is always faithful to His children. Thinking about Psalm 119:105, we feel peace knowing God’s Word lights our dark ways. Consider Lamentations 3:22-23, “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” God’s love corrects us. Hebrews 12:6 says, “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” Even when we were still sinners, Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Sr. White says clearly, “God’s love never changes. He may correct us, but He never leaves His children.” (Steps to Christ, 10). She also comforts us, saying, “The Lord does not want to hurt or make people sad. He is always kind, full of pity, and very loving. He lets trouble come to His children to save them from bigger danger.” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, 143). The Bible supports this with verses like “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent” (Revelation 3:19). “For the LORD will not cast off for ever: But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies” (Lamentations 3:31-32). Sr. White explains, “God does not require us to give up anything that it is for our best interest to retain. In all that He does, He has the well-being of His children in view” (Steps to Christ, 83, 1892). She adds, “All that God requires we can give. ‘Not as I will, but as Thou wilt,’ is the language of the submissive soul” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). This deep truth calls us to hold on to His never-changing love. The world may become chaotic, but His love is our strong anchor. But how do these truths compel us to honor divine commands?
OBEYING OUR OBLIGATION!
Because of these deep truths, I know I must honor and obey God with all my heart. The Bible tells me to study His Word closely. I must pray with passion and always be close to the Holy Spirit. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet” (Psalm 119:105) guides me to live in a way that respects God and His ways. Think about Deuteronomy 10:12-13, “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?” This promise to follow God’s law should always be in my heart. Joshua 1:8 tells us, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” James 1:22 also reminds us to act on what we learn. “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” I feel a strong need to grow my relationship with God. Sr. White says clearly, “Our Father in heaven does not want us to obey without thinking. He wants all who He made to serve Him with their minds.” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, 36). Sr. White also makes clear that our worship must be active. “It’s not enough to just hear sermons, or know the truth. It’s not enough to say you believe in Christ and have your name in the church book. ‘The person who says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not keep His commands, is a liar. Truth is not in that person.’” (Christ’s Object Lessons, 313). She urges us to always grow spiritually. “We need to turn away from sin, change our hearts, and become holy. We need to be born again. We must move forward together, getting closer to being perfect.” (Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, 457). The Bible supports this with verses like “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13). Sr. White affirms, “Obedience to God is the highest evidence of our love for Him” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, 341, 1885). She declares, “True obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work with Christ” (The Desire of Ages, 668, 1898). By saying yes to God’s call, I make my own faith stronger. I also show others the life-changing power of God’s lasting love. But how can we extend this devotion to those around us?
KINDNESS TO KINDRED!
It is also key that we, together, show Christ’s kindness to everyone around us. We all must be kind, honest, and true in all we do. The Bible shows that when we care for others, we honor God. His love works through our acts of help and love. Remember Proverbs 14:21, “He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.” We should be fair in our actions. We need to kindly help those stuck in false teachings. We offer them gentle help and real support. This care for each other in the community is in Galatians 6:2. “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Also, we must share the hope we have. 1 Peter 3:15 tells us, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” Sr. White gives us advice for true Christian living. “Christ’s followers must be the light of the world. Their job is to shine light into the dark world of sin.” (The Desire of Ages, 479). Expanding on this purpose, she adds, “Every true follower is born into God’s kingdom to be a missionary. Whoever drinks the living water becomes a spring of life. If you receive, you must give.” (The Desire of Ages, 195). She also makes clear what real service is. “Christ’s work is to reach and lift up people. It needs each person to work hard and give themselves fully. We must share with others the truth God has given us. Our personal effect on others is powerful. It should be made holy and used for Christ.” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, 131). The Bible supports this with verses like “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works” (Hebrews 10:24). Sr. White explains, “In our work we are to remember the way in which Christ worked. He made the world. He redeemed it. He was born poor, and He went through poverty, that He might understand the necessities of the suffering ones” (Evangelism, 74, 1946). She urges, “The Lord desires that His people shall be a peculiar people, showing forth His praise in life and works” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). So, we must try to be channels of God’s kindness, in our words and actions. But what enduring call does truth issue amid such reflections?
TRUTH’S TRIUMPHANT TRUMPET!
Thinking about Babylon’s fall and the strong charges against it, we see that the call to truth is not sad news. It is an invite to a better, cleaner way of life. The Bible shows clearly the mistakes of false religion. It calls us to stay firmly on God’s Word. In my own walk with God, I have learned that going back to God’s pure truth renews my spirit. It helps us join together with others. Together, we must keep God’s rules. We need to say no to the tempting pull of worldly ways. We can be sure that God’s strong love and the promise of lasting truth will keep us steady in all times. Jesus Himself said in John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” This truth should bring us together. Ephesians 4:3 urges, “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Sr. White stresses how truth changes us. “Truth always agrees with itself. It is not weak or dull. It is full of power and real life. The gospel truth is not just an idea. It is a living power. It changes lives and makes every part of us better.” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 7, 50). She also highlights that truth will win in the end. “The flag of truth and freedom of religion must be held high. It is for those who keep God’s rules and have faith in Jesus Christ. The third angel’s message must be preached with power. It will test the whole world.” (The Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). The Bible supports this with verses like “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:5). “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding” (Proverbs 23:23). Sr. White affirms, “We must stand firm for the truth, even if it means sacrifice” (Review and Herald, April 14, 1903). She declares, “The truth will prevail, and those who stand by it will be vindicated” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903). Let us, with new strength, accept this holy calling. But what final insights does Scripture offer on this prophetic portrait?
FINAL FIRM FOUNDATION!
Finally, the Bible’s picture of Babylon—its fall, sin, and God’s strong judgment—is both a clear warning and a bright guide for God’s people. The clear message of Revelation, proven by old prophets and echoed in Sr. White’s writings, begs us to stand firm on truth. May we, as one group, answer with fresh loyalty to God. May we show His great love to everyone and live out the pure and true gospel in all we do. Time is short, and God’s call is urgent. Let’s “walk in the light.” Let’s always watch and guard our precious faith, until our Lord comes back in glory. To stay watchful, 1 Corinthians 16:13 urges, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” And being watchful, let’s strongly fight for our faith. Jude 1:3 asks us, “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Amen. Sr. White leaves us with this last push, “We are standing at the edge of forever. We have no time to waste. Every moment is worth more than gold. We must use it to work for God. Time is our chance to be tested. It is closing fast. We must now do a complete work to get ready for eternity.” (Christ’s Object Lessons, 344). So, let our lives show this need to act now and our promise to God’s lasting truth. The Bible supports this with verses like “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). Sr. White affirms, “Stand firmly for God’s truth in the name of Jesus. The very nobleness of the cause we are engaged in should call forth our earnestness, zeal, and devotion” (Review and Herald, April 14, 1903). She declares, “We must stand firm in the grand old truths, and then adorn our profession with holy lives” (Review and Herald, September 24, 1903).
“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4).
