KINGDOM CALL TO ARMS!

2 Peter 3:11-12 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

ABSTRACT

This article explores the Christian responsibilities in service, prophetic preparation, health reform, education, and readiness for Christ’s return, emphasizing God’s love and the call to reflect it through action and obedience.

DISCIPLE DUTY DRIVE!

Jesus’ command to His disciples in Matthew 10:7-8 (KJV) lays the foundation for Christian service: “And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” This passage highlights the dual responsibility to proclaim the gospel and minister to physical needs, reflecting God’s love for the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Through this command, Christ set an example of compassionate service, demonstrating that His followers should prioritize both spiritual restoration and practical acts of mercy. Ellen G. White emphasizes this point: “Christ’s servants are stewards of His grace. Their work is to reveal His glory and make known His love.” (Testimonies, Vol. 6, p. 13, 1901). By sharing God’s truth and relieving suffering, we show His love through action, illustrating that faith is not just a doctrine but a lifestyle. Unity depends on a vital connection with Christ. Jesus went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. “The real character of the church is measured, not by the high profession she makes, not by the names enrolled upon the church book, but by what she is actually doing for the Master, by the number of her persevering, faithful workers. Personal interest and vigilant, individual effort will accomplish more for the cause of Christ than can be wrought by sermons or creeds.” (Review and Herald, September 6, 1881). “Christ commits to His followers an individual work,—a work that cannot be done by proxy. Ministry to the sick and the poor, the giving of the gospel to the lost, is not to be left to committees or organized charities. Individual responsibility, individual effort, personal sacrifice, is the requirement of the gospel.” (Ministry of Healing, p. 147, 1905). But how does this preparation extend to our daily lives?

REACH RESPONSIBILITY RUSH!

This responsibility is not optional but integral to the Christian walk. Sr. White further explains, “To reach people, wherever they are, and whatever their position or condition, and to help them in every way possible—this is the true ministry.” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 143, 1905). The call to preach and heal teaches that we are to reflect God’s compassion by addressing both spiritual and physical needs. This involves not only speaking about God’s kingdom but living in a way that reveals His transformative power. Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. “Individual responsibility, individual effort, personal sacrifice, is the requirement of the gospel.” (Ministry of Healing, p. 147, 1905). “Every individual, from the lowest and most obscure to the greatest and most exalted, is a moral agent endowed with abilities for which he is accountable to God.” (Bible Echo, June 10, 1901). But how does this responsibility manifest in proclaiming the prophetic message?

BAPTIST BOLD BLAST!

The prophetic message of preparation, as foretold in Isaiah 40:3-8 (KJV) and Malachi 4:5-6 (KJV), highlights the responsibility to guide others toward repentance and readiness for Christ’s return. Isaiah 40:3-5 (KJV): “Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low.” Malachi 4:5-6 (KJV): “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” Jesus identified John the Baptist as fulfilling this prophecy in Matthew 17:11-13 (KJV): “Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.” John’s mission was to prepare hearts to receive Christ, emphasizing repentance and holiness. Sr. White connects this to the present day: “As John prepared the way for Christ’s first advent, we are to prepare the way for His second coming.” (Testimonies, Vol. 3, p. 62, 1875). John’s lifestyle of simplicity—symbolized by his diet of locusts and honey—modeled self-denial and devotion. His call to repentance rebuked sin and called people to righteousness, reflecting God’s love by leading them away from destruction. Sr. White explains, “The voice of John was a call to self-examination, repentance, and reform. It is the same message that must be proclaimed today.” (Desire of Ages, p. 104, 1898). We, like John, are called to proclaim God’s truth, warn against sin, and urge others to prepare for Christ’s return. This responsibility reflects God’s love in giving humanity every opportunity to turn back to Him. Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. “John was to reform the children of Israel, and turn them to the Lord. He had the promise that God would work with him.” (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 321, 1862). “The Lord has a work for women as well as for men. They may take their places in His work at this crisis, and He will work through them.” (Welfare Ministry, p. 145, 1952). But how does this readiness extend to our physical and spiritual well-being?

BODY BOOST BATTLE!

Health reform reflects God’s care for human well-being and emphasizes obedience in preparation for Christ’s return. Deuteronomy 8:3 (KJV) highlights God’s provision to the Israelites: “Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord.” Paul reiterates this lesson in 1 Corinthians 10:6, 11 (KJV): “Now these things were our examples… they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” God used health principles to teach Israel dependence and self-control. Sr. White connects this to us: “Health reform is closely connected with the third angel’s message and is as essential to preparation for Christ’s coming as any other element of truth.” (Testimonies, Vol. 3, p. 62, 1875). She elaborates that neglecting health laws weakens both physical and spiritual strength, leaving individuals unprepared for temptation: “The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, who, if they had conquered on this point, would have had strength to gain victory over every other temptation.” (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 163, 1938). We are tasked with preserving health to better serve God and our communities. Proper care of the body enhances mental clarity and spiritual receptivity, allowing us to honor God fully. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. “Health reform is an important part of the third angel’s message; and as a people professing this reform, we should not retrograde, but make continual advancement. It is a great thing to ensure health by placing ourselves in right relations to the laws of life, and many have not done this.” (Counsels on Health, p. 49, 1914). “Our ancestors have bequeathed to us customs and appetites which are filling the world with disease. The sins of the parents, through perverted appetite, are with fearful power visited upon the children to the third and fourth generations.” (Counsels on Health, p. 49, 1914). But how does this well-being connect to our education and practical living?

TEMPERANCE TRAINING TIME!

Education in temperance and health reform is a key responsibility to God and neighbor. Romans 12:1 (KJV) calls us to holy living: “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Sr. White stresses the need for practical education: “Every church, every family, needs to be instructed in regard to Christian temperance. Health reform is to be made a subject of interest and study.” (Gospel Workers, p. 347, 1915). This responsibility extends to guiding others in both physical and spiritual health. White writes, “The world needs today what it needed nineteen hundred years ago—a revelation of Christ in human flesh.” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 143, 1905). We are called to live as examples, demonstrating principles of temperance, purity, and righteousness. White further states, “By precept and example, we are to teach self-denial, temperance, and reform, showing that the laws of health are the laws of God.” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 146, 1905). This includes caring for others by teaching them how to live in harmony with God’s laws, reflecting His love and concern for all aspects of life. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. “The principles of health reform have the highest authority, and deserve a wider sphere than has yet been given them by many who profess present truth.” (Unpublished Testimonies, November 8, 1896). “There is real common sense in health reform.” (Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, p. 57, 1890). But how does this practical application prepare us for the ultimate goal of Christ’s return?

RETURN READY RALLY!

The ultimate goal of these principles is to prepare us and our neighbors for Christ’s return. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV): “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Sr. White emphasizes this preparation, stating, “The health reform is one branch of the great work which is to fit a people for the coming of the Lord.” (Testimonies, Vol. 6, p. 112, 1901). We are responsible for living in readiness and helping others prepare by sharing God’s love and truth. White writes, “The Lord has made His people the depositaries of His law. They are to make known its principles and by their lives demonstrate its power to transform character.” (Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 19, 1909). Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. “The Lord has given his people a message in regard to health reform. This light has been shining upon their pathway for thirty years, and the Lord cannot sustain his servants in a course which will counteract it.” (Special Testimonies, Series A 7:40, 1897). “God’s blessing will rest upon every effort made to awaken an interest in health reform; for it is needed everywhere.” (Review and Herald, October 15, 1914). But how does this preparation lead to personal victory?

VICTORY VANGUARD VOW!

The concepts discussed highlight our responsibilities to God and our neighbors. Through gospel proclamation, health reform, and spiritual readiness, we are called to reflect God’s love, teach truth, and live as examples. These practices prepare us and our communities for Christ’s return, offering personal victory and eternal hope. 1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. “To everyone who becomes a partaker of His grace, the Lord appoints a work for others. Individually we are to stand in our lot and place, saying, “Here I am; send me.”” (Ministry of Healing, p. 148, 1905). “The pleasure of doing good to others imparts a glow to the feelings which flashes through the nerves, quickens the circulation of the blood, and induces mental and physical health.” (Testimonies for the Church 4:56, 1876).
