“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8, KJV).
ABSTRACT
This article explores the critical choice we face in serving God through obedience to His law, especially the Sabbath, amid growing conflicts and deceptions. It emphasizes that God’s law reflects His love, serving as a sign of allegiance and a test of loyalty. Drawing from Scripture and inspired counsel, the discussion highlights the intensifying spiritual battle, urging the community to stand firm, share the truth, and live faithfully as the end approaches, assuring victory for those who choose the Lord.
THE CLOCK IS TICKING: THE SABBATH UNDER SIEGE!
Today, we stand at a critical juncture, much like the Israelites of old, facing a choice that will determine our eternal destiny. We will explore the urgent message of God’s law, particularly the Sabbath, drawing from the King James Version of the Bible and the inspired writings of Ellen G. White. Christ calls us to decide our path, as Joshua boldly declared the need for commitment in service to God. Ellen G. White emphasizes this urgency when she writes, “The Lord calls for decided action on the part of His people” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, p. 147, 1909). Scripture reinforces the gravity of our decisions, stating, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19, KJV). In another passage, God urges faithfulness through the prophet, proclaiming, “If ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine” (Exodus 19:5, KJV). A prophetic voice further illuminates this by declaring, “The time has come when every soul must stand or fall according to his own merits” (Manuscript Releases, Vol. 1, p. 362, 1990). Through inspired counsel we learn, “God is testing the motives and principles of all” (The Great Controversy, p. 591, 1911). Our community finds strength in these truths, guiding us toward eternal life. Are you ready to dive deep into this crucial topic?
CHOICE IS YOURS? MODERN-DAY MOUNT CARMEL!
The Bible paints a vivid picture of choice. Unity depends on a vital connection with Christ, as our relationship with Him forms the foundation of true harmony. Christ demonstrates this through His teachings on abiding in Him, showing that without Him we can do nothing. We experience this in daily life when personal stories reveal the consequences of compromise and the peace of obedience. “Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess” (Deuteronomy 5:33, KJV). “Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you” (1 Samuel 12:24, KJV). In Patriarchs and Prophets we read, “Obedience to God is the highest evidence of love to Him” (p. 125, 1890). A passage from The Desire of Ages reminds us, “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (p. 505, 1898). This choice echoes through our lives, demanding daily commitment that influences the community around us. What dilemma confronts us in this modern era?
SABBATH: SIGN OF ALLEGIANCE?
The Sabbath, a cornerstone of God’s law, is under direct attack. Disregard for divine authority manifests when human laws override God’s command on the Sabbath, signaling rebellion against the Creator. Society exerts pressure through work demands and the diminishing of its sanctity, highlighting a broader rejection of heavenly principles. “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15, KJV). “Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed” (Isaiah 56:1, KJV). The inspired pen notes, “The Sabbath is a sign of creative and redeeming power” (Education, p. 250, 1903). Through inspired counsel we are told, “The Sabbath points them to the works of creation as an evidence of His mighty power in redemption” (The Great Controversy, p. 438, 1911). The community confronts this question in personal reflection, urging alignment with the Lord’s side. How does this conflict intensify in our daily experiences?
INTENSIFYING CONFLICT: CALL TO STAND FIRM?
The battle lines are being drawn more clearly each day. The angel of Revelation 18 illuminates truth with increasing brightness, sharpening the divide between righteousness and deception. False wonders attempt to mislead, yet anchoring in Jesus provides stability amid turmoil. “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him” (Nahum 1:7, KJV). “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, KJV). In Testimonies to Ministers we read, “The truth must be proclaimed more fully than ever before” (p. 117, 1923). A prophetic voice once wrote, “We are to stand firm as a rock to principle” (Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 52, 1956). Personal grounding in Scripture offers calm, rooting the community like steadfast trees. What deeper meaning does God’s law hold for our well-being?
LOVE OF GOD REFLECTED IN HIS LAW?
God’s law, including the Sabbath, is not a burden but an expression of His profound love. God’s law serves as a protective gift, with the Sabbath offering rest and connection. Disobedience invites harm, akin to parental boundaries safeguarding children. “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy” (Psalm 103:8, KJV). “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97, KJV). Sr. White explains, “The law of God is an expression of His very nature; it is an embodiment of the great principle of love” (Steps to Christ, p. 60, 1892). In another work, the messenger affirms, “Obedience to the law of God is sanctification” (Signs of the Times, May 19, 1898). The Sabbath thus stands as a shield, affirming God’s care for the community’s flourishing. How does this message challenge our faithfulness?
TEST OF LOYALTY: WHO WILL JOIN RANKS?!
This message isn’t just about exposing error; it’s a test of our loyalty to God. The angel of Revelation 18 summons us to proclaim light amid shadows, emulating faithful witnesses in trials. Debates on liberty, secular conformity, and eroding principles demand vigilance and discernment. “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10, KJV). “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13, KJV). A passage from Evangelism reminds us, “We are to be loyal to God and to His law” (p. 240, 1946). Through inspired counsel we learn, “Loyalty to God is the first principle of true religion” (Prophets and Kings, p. 483, 1917). The community must actively share truth, rejecting silence in the face of drifting shadows. What urgent response does this demand from us now?
CALL TO ACTION!
The message is clear: the time is short, the battle is fierce, but the victory is assured for those who remain faithful. Joshua’s declaration inspires choice and firmness in truth, regardless of cost. The community uplifts one another, living and defending the faith as a sacred mission. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10, KJV). “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:14, KJV). In Christian Experience and Teachings we read, “We must be faithful to the end” (p. 225, 1922). The inspired pen declares, “The Lord will give grace and glory” (The Sanctified Life, p. 83, 1889). This calling unites us in purpose and action.
