“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth” (2 Peter 1:12, KJV).
ABSTRACT
This article delves into the timeless yet timely concept of present truth, portraying it as God’s customized message for every era to foster spiritual preparedness and loyalty, illustrated through historical biblical narratives such as Noah’s ark and Lot’s escape, positioning Jesus Christ as the core of all truth, identifying the Three Angels’ Messages as the urgent present truth for today amid end-time trials, underscoring how this divine provision manifests God’s profound love and care, encouraging personal transformation and collective action within the community to proclaim and embody this truth in anticipation of Christ’s imminent return.
TRUTH’S TIMELY CALL!
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, KJV). This profound statement sets the stage for understanding the concept of present truth, a message uniquely tailored for each generation’s spiritual needs and challenges. Present truth is not merely knowledge; it is God’s timely gospel for readiness and faithfulness. Understanding present truth is vital for living in harmony with God’s will, rooted in the unchanging Word of God and centered on Christ. God reveals His paths clearly, as seen in “Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:4-5, KJV), and guidance comes in moments of need, echoed in “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21, KJV). In Christ’s Object Lessons we read that in every age there is a new development of truth, a message of God to the people of that generation, the old truths are all essential, new truth is not independent of the old, but an unfolding of it, it is only as the old truths are understood that we can comprehend the new (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 127, 1900), and through inspired counsel we are told that there are many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is present truth that the flock needs now (Early Writings, p. 63, 1882). These foundational elements highlight the dynamic nature of divine revelation. But how has this truth shaped key moments in biblical history?
BIBLICAL TRUTH HEROES!
The Bible illustrates how present truth has guided humanity through critical moments. In Noah’s time, the present truth was a call to repentance and preparation for the flood. Genesis 6:13 recounts God’s warning to Noah: “The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence.” Noah’s obedience led him to build the ark, a refuge for the faithful. Similarly, Lot’s instruction to flee Sodom before its destruction (Genesis 19:15-17) was a message of present truth tailored to that time. There is a present truth for the church today, He who does all things according to the counsel of His will has been pleased to place men under various circumstances (The Great Controversy, pp. 143-144, 1911). God spared not the old world in judgment, “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5, KJV), while faith drives action in crisis, as “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith” (Hebrews 11:7, KJV). The inspired pen notes that the message to Noah was present truth for that time, and if the people had obeyed it, they would have been saved from the destruction that came upon the earth because of their transgression (Signs of the Times, p. 1, December 20, 1905), and a passage from Patriarchs and Prophets reminds us that God gave Noah a message of warning for the world, that the wickedness of men had come to such a height that He would destroy the world by a flood (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 95, 1890). These examples demonstrate God’s faithfulness in providing timely guidance for salvation. Yet who stands at the center of this eternal truth?
CHRIST’S TRUTH POWER!
Jesus Christ is the essence of truth. He declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). His mission was to restore truth, untainted by human traditions or errors. Ellen G. White emphasizes, “Christ is the author of all truth… He found the bright gems of truth buried in superstition and tradition” (That I May Know Him, p. 207, 1964). As followers of Christ, we are called to uphold and share this pure truth. Just as Christ revealed truth to His generation, we must proclaim present truth today, focusing on spiritual readiness and obedience to God’s Word. Revealing His role clearly, Christ embodies divine revelation, as “But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God” (John 3:21, KJV), and truth frees through knowledge, stated in “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32, KJV). A prophetic voice once wrote that here the truth is lived, the truth is obeyed, the truth is taught as it is in Jesus (This Day with God, p. 222, 1979), and through inspired counsel we are told that Christ is not simply the embodiment of the truth, He is the Truth, truth is not a concept or a construct, it is a Person (Manuscript Releases, vol. 20, p. 68, 1993). This central role inspires unwavering commitment. But how does present truth prepare us for the trials ahead?
FINAL TEST ALERT!
The message of present truth evolves to address the unique trials of each generation. In our time, the proclamation of the Three Angels’ Messages represents the present truth. The Third Angel’s Message warns of the final test before Christ’s return, calling us to “worship him that made heaven, and earth…” (Revelation 14:7). This message urges us to reject false systems of worship and embrace God’s commandments. Sr. White states, “The sealing time is very short, and will soon be over. Now is the time to be sure you are settled into the truth” (SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 4, p. 1161, 1955). Understanding and living this truth prepare us for Christ’s return and the close of probation. Scripture reveals that perilous times mark the end, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1, KJV), and deception rises strongly, as “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matthew 24:24, KJV). In Evangelism we read that the third angel’s message is to be at this time regarded as of the highest importance, it is a life-and-death question (Evangelism, p. 196, 1946), and a passage from Manuscript Releases reminds us that the third angel’s message is the present truth, the special message for this time (Manuscript Releases, vol. 9, p. 291, 1990). This preparation demands vigilant faith. Yet how does this reflect divine compassion?
GOD’S LOVE REVEALED!
God’s provision of present truth reflects His boundless love for humanity. He desires our salvation and prepares us for every challenge. As Paul wrote, “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). This truth assures us that God’s guidance is always available. Sr. White asserts, “Christ’s mission was to restore the lost knowledge of God’s character” (Education, p. 76, 1903). By sending specific messages for each generation, God shows His care and commitment to our spiritual growth and readiness. This love inspires us to trust Him completely and share His truth with others. Clearly, God’s love manifests in truth, as “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18, KJV), and abiding in love connects to Him, stated in “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16, KJV). The inspired pen notes that God is love, and in all His works, in all His dealings with mankind, His love is revealed (Message of the Month, p. 1, 1896), and through inspired counsel we are told that speak the truth in tones and words of love, let Christ be exalted (Reflecting Christ, p. 240, 1985). This assurance fosters deep gratitude. But how can we live this out daily?
TRUTH IN ACTION!
In my own life, I have experienced the transformative power of present truth. Studying the Bible and Ellen G. White’s writings has deepened my understanding of God’s love and strengthened my faith. As a community, we are called to live and share this truth. Imagine the impact if we collectively embraced the urgency of the Third Angel’s Message, proclaiming it with conviction and love. We must encourage one another, helping our churches and communities prepare for Christ’s return. Sr. White reminds us, “The work of saving souls must be done in this generation” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, p. 40, 1909). Together, we can fulfill God’s mission. We apply truth through integrity, as “He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart” (Psalm 15:2, KJV), and communal honesty builds strength, echoed in “These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates” (Zechariah 8:16, KJV). A prophetic voice once wrote that buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding (Our High Calling, p. 28, 1961), and a passage from Early Writings reminds us that every soul who believes present truth will be brought where he will be required to give a reason of the hope that is in him (Early Writings, p. 124, 1882). This shared effort multiplies eternal impact. Yet what final thoughts anchor this journey?
TRUTH’S GRAND FINALE!
Present truth is God’s timely message for each generation. From Noah’s call to enter the ark to our current proclamation of the Three Angels’ Messages, present truth prepares us for salvation and strengthens our relationship with Christ. Rooted in love and guided by Scripture, this truth demands our commitment and action. As we reflect on its significance, let us ask ourselves: Are we ready to embrace and share present truth? God’s love compels us to respond with faithfulness and urgency, knowing that His truth leads us to eternal life. Let us hold fast to His Word and work together to prepare for the challenges and blessings of our time.
