STEWARDSHIP: SHAPING OUR PATH FOR GOD’S GLORY

Ecclesiastes 11:4 “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”

ABSTRACT

This article explores our responsibility to shape our circumstances for God’s work, emphasizing steadfast commitment to His kingdom. Through complete KJV Bible verses and Sr. White’s writings, it underscores the importance of prioritizing spiritual duties over worldly distractions, maintaining loyalty to Christ through self-denial, and mastering challenges with divine guidance.

RISING ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES

We shape our circumstances to fulfill God’s purpose, not allowing them to define us. Sr. White asserts that “Man can make his circumstances, but circumstances should never make the man” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, pp. 496-497, 1875). This highlights the necessity of cultivating independence and character strength, regardless of external conditions. We must seize circumstances as tools to accomplish God’s assigned tasks. Scripture affirms this: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13, KJV). Additionally, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28, KJV). Sr. White further states, “The life that is hid with Christ in God is fortified against the assaults of evil” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 281, 1905). She also emphasizes, “Through the power of Christ, men are to rise above their circumstances and make their lives a success” (The Desire of Ages, p. 606, 1898). By relying on Christ’s strength, we become powerful instruments in God’s hands. How can we prioritize God’s kingdom amidst worldly distractions?

PRIORITIZING GOD’S KINGDOM

Focusing on God’s kingdom remains our primary duty, surpassing worldly pursuits. Sr. White warns against allowing “worldly interests so to absorb our time and attention that we pay no heed to the things that God has said must come first” (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, December 1, 1910, p. 10). Christ’s example of self-denial and sacrifice on the cross calls us to similar dedication. Scripture supports this: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24, KJV). Moreover, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2, KJV). Sr. White adds, “Those who surrender themselves to God will do His work regardless of circumstances” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 333, 1900). She also notes, “The followers of Christ are to be the light of the world, revealing His love through their lives” (The Desire of Ages, p. 138, 1898). This commitment shapes our daily lives to reflect Christ’s sacrifice. What does true loyalty to Christ demand of us?

LOYALTY TO CHRIST

True loyalty to Christ requires deep, enduring dedication to His teachings and service. Each of us is called to active service, reflecting devotion through actions and decisions. Scripture declares, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37, KJV). Additionally, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21, KJV). Sr. White states, “True loyalty to Christ requires a complete surrender of self to His service” (Steps to Christ, p. 43, 1892). She further explains, “The consecrated life is a life of continual sacrifice for Christ’s sake” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 471, 1905). This loyalty equips us to face challenges with courage. How can we maintain spiritual focus amidst distractions?

MAINTAINING SPIRITUAL FOCUS

Keeping our eyes on Christ enables us to navigate worldly distractions successfully. Sr. White encourages us to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, December 1, 1910, p. 10). The power to rise above circumstances comes from aligning our will with God’s mission. Scripture confirms, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5, KJV). Also, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV). Sr. White writes, “By beholding Christ, we become changed into His image” (The Great Controversy, p. 555, 1888). She also notes, “Through constant communion with God, we gain strength to overcome obstacles” (Steps to Christ, p. 93, 1892). This focus empowers us to bear witness to Christ’s love. How does this commitment shape our spiritual journey?

FULFILLING OUR SPIRITUAL CALLING

Mastering circumstances and remaining loyal to Christ define our spiritual journey. Sr. White’s writings reveal that focusing on God’s kingdom strengthens our faith. Scripture states, “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7, KJV). Furthermore, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10, KJV). Sr. White affirms, “Those who dedicate their lives to Christ’s service will find their circumstances molded by His hand” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 404, 1900). She also writes, “By working for the salvation of others, we fulfill our highest purpose” (The Desire of Ages, p. 822, 1898). This commitment enables us to make a lasting impact for God’s glory.

“But seek ye injurious first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33, KJV).
