Jeremiah 20:9 states, “But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”
ABSTRACT
God’s urgent call to share His message underscores the immense value of each soul and the fleeting nature of opportunities to act. The community bears a divine responsibility to respond promptly to His promptings, ensuring no chance to spread the gospel is lost. This article explores the critical need for immediate obedience, the active role of sharing God’s truth, and the weight of our duty to fulfill His purpose with diligence.
GOD’S CALL DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ACTION
The community faces a divine imperative to act swiftly when God prompts us to share His message, as the loss of a soul carries eternal consequences. Sr. White emphasizes, “The loss of a soul is the heaviest loss that heaven can sustain” (Evangelism, p. 634, 1946). In moments when we prioritize others’ concerns over God’s clear urging, we risk missing irreplaceable opportunities. Sr. White further warns, “There are critical moments in life when our destiny and that of others are determined” (Evangelism, p. 281, 1946). Hesitation, though well-intentioned, results in a missed chance that cannot be reclaimed. Scripture affirms this urgency in Isaiah 55:6, “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (KJV), and Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest” (KJV). Sr. White also advises, “Procrastination is the thief of time” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 343, 1900), and “We should improve every opportunity to do good, for these opportunities once gone, do not return” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 344, 1889). This highlights the need for obedience to God’s promptings, trusting His perfect timing to impact lives eternally. How does God’s call ignite an undeniable urgency within us to share His truth?
THE MESSAGE BURNS WITHIN US
God’s message, when it touches our hearts, compels us to share it with an urgency that transcends human limitations. This call reaches all who are willing, regardless of status or education. Jeremiah describes God’s Word as “a fire shut up in my bones” (Jeremiah 20:9, KJV), an unstoppable force. Sr. White echoes this, stating, “The truth is as a fire in their bones, filling them with a burning desire to enlighten those who sit in darkness” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 7, pp. 26-27, 1902). Throughout history, those touched by God’s message have been driven to share it, even without formal qualifications. Psalm 40:10 declares, “I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation” (KJV), and Acts 4:20 affirms, “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard” (KJV). Sr. White further notes, “The humblest may bear a message from God that will reach the hearts of men” (Gospel Workers, p. 265, 1915), and “God will use the weak and feeble to proclaim His truth” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 148, 1905). This underscores that God’s power works through our willingness, not our capabilities. How does this burning desire to share God’s truth shape our daily actions?
SEIZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE
The community must seize every opportunity to share God’s message, as these moments are fleeting and irreplaceable. Sr. White admonishes, “Lose no opportunity to make known to others the unsearchable riches of Christ; for an opportunity once neglected may pass forever beyond recall” (Gospel Workers, p. 195, 1915). The transient nature of these chances demands vigilance. Proverbs 3:27 instructs, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it” (KJV), and Galatians 6:10 urges, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men” (KJV). Sr. White further emphasizes, “Every day brings its opportunities for doing good; every day offers its privileges for speaking a word in season” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, p. 539, 1881), and “The work of God is to be carried forward with intensity and zeal” (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 118, 1958). This reinforces the preciousness of each moment to spread the gospel. How does our readiness to act reflect our commitment to God’s mission?
EMBRACING OUR RESPONSIBILITY
Our responsibility as a community extends beyond readiness to a steadfast commitment to fulfill God’s work with diligence. To follow Christ is to stand as a servant ready at a moment’s notice. Sr. White writes, “Stand as minute-men, ready for service at a moment’s notice” (Gospel Workers, p. 195, 1915). This call demands constant preparedness to impact lives for Christ. 2 Timothy 4:2 exhorts, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season” (KJV), and 1 Peter 3:15 advises, “Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you” (KJV). Sr. White further states, “We are to be ready to give an account of our faith at any time” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p. 128, 1900), and “The work committed to us is sacred, and we must be diligent in its performance” (The Desire of Ages, p. 72, 1898). This responsibility is not just about personal growth but about sharing God’s transformative message. How do we ensure our actions align with God’s purpose to reach those in need?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16, KJV).
