“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, KJV).
ABSTRACT
Christ’s sacrifice restores humanity to God’s family, granting redemption, adoption, and eternal inheritance, calling us to faith, obedience, and sharing the message of salvation with others.
REDEMPTION THROUGH CHRIST’S SACRIFICE
Christ’s sacrifice restores us to God’s family, granting redemption, adoption, and eternal inheritance. Galatians 4:5–7 declares, “To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” Through this act of grace, we are no longer servants but children and heirs of God. Scripture affirms this truth in Romans 8:15, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father,” and Ephesians 1:7, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” Sr. White writes, “Through the cross of Calvary, Christ has made it possible for us to be restored to the favor of God” (The Desire of Ages, p. 113, 1898). She further states, “The sacrifice of Christ as an atonement for sin is the great truth around which all other truths cluster” (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 107, 1958). This complete sacrifice redeems us, transforming our relationship with God into one of love and kinship. How does Christ’s example of perseverance further guide our response to this gift?
FAITH AND OBEDIENCE IN CHRIST’S EXAMPLE
Christ’s sacrifice calls us to faith and obedience, demonstrated through His example of perseverance and suffering. Hebrews 2:10 states, “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” By enduring suffering, Christ became the perfect example for His followers, showing that faith and perseverance are essential for spiritual growth. Further scriptures affirm this in 1 Peter 2:21, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps,” and Philippians 2:8, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Sr. White notes, “Christ’s life of self-denial and sacrifice is ever to be kept before us as an example” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, p. 407, 1875). She also writes, “In His life on earth, Christ developed a perfect character, He lived a life of obedience” (Manuscript Releases, vol. 4, p. 342, 1990). This example calls us to reflect His righteousness through faithful living. How does this sacrifice reveal God’s love and unite us with Him?
GOD’S LOVE UNITES US IN RIGHTEOUSNESS
Christ’s sacrifice reveals the depth of God’s love and His desire to unite us with Him in righteousness and eternal glory. The SDA Bible Commentary notes, “God loves His obedient children. He has a kingdom prepared…Christ and His people are one” (vol. 6, p. 1077). This love is made evident in our redemption and adoption as children of God, allowing us to partake in an eternal inheritance. Scripture supports this in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” and 1 John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” Sr. White affirms, “The love of God was demonstrated in the gift of His Son, that we might become His children” (Steps to Christ, p. 15, 1892). She further states, “The cross of Christ is the pledge of our fellowship with God” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 65, 1905). Through His sacrifice, Christ restores our relationship with God, uniting us in love and purpose. Our response should be a life of faith and gratitude, reflecting God’s grace in our actions. How can we share this message of redemption with others?
SHARING THE MESSAGE OF REDEMPTION
As heirs of God’s kingdom, we have a responsibility to share the message of redemption with others. Sr. White writes, “A sacrifice sufficient to save every son and daughter of Adam” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, p. 664, 1870), highlighting the universal scope of Christ’s sacrifice. Our role is to manifest faith in Christ by leading others to Him, sharing the hope of salvation, and demonstrating His love through our relationships. Scripture reinforces this in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven,” and Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Sr. White emphasizes, “Every true disciple is born into the kingdom of God as a missionary” (The Desire of Ages, p. 195, 1898). She also writes, “The work of God in this earth can never be finished until the men and women comprising our church membership rally to the work” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9, p. 117, 1909). By living as faithful heirs, we fulfill His purpose and honor Christ’s sacrifice.
