For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. (Psalm 36:9, KJV)
ABSTRACT
This article illuminates Christ’s pivotal role as the sustainer of life and the radiant beacon of God’s unwavering love. Through biblical truths and inspired insights, it guides readers to embrace worship, selfless service, and communal unity, empowering them to shine His light amid worldly shadows. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist” (Colossians 1:16-17, KJV). “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” (Isaiah 61:1, KJV). “God is the source of life and light and joy to the universe. Like rays of light from the sun, like the streams of living water bursting from a living spring, blessings flow out from Him to all His creatures. And wherever the life of God is in the hearts of men, it will flow out to others in love and blessing” (Steps to Christ, p. 77, 1892). “The loveliness of the character of Christ will be seen in His followers. It was His delight to do the will of God. Love to God, zeal for His glory, was the controlling power in our Saviour’s life. Love beautified and ennobled all His actions” (Steps to Christ, p. 59, 1892). These foundations remind us that living in His light transforms hearts and communities, but how does this truth pierce through life’s overwhelming challenges?
CHRIST’S CALL TO SHINE!
Life’s challenges often feel overwhelming, like a dense fog that blocks our way forward. Yet, the Bible reminds us that Christ is the light piercing through this darkness, offering clarity, hope, and purpose. As John 1:4–5 declares, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” This blog explores Christ’s role as Creator, Sustainer, and the ultimate expression of God’s love, drawing insights from Scripture and the writings of Ellen G. White. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12, KJV). “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6, KJV). “Christ is the source of every right impulse. He is the only one that can implant in the heart enmity against sin. Every desire for truth and purity, every conviction of our own sinfulness, is an evidence that His Spirit is moving upon our hearts” (Steps to Christ, p. 26, 1892). “Jesus Christ is everything to us—the first, the last, the best in everything. Jesus Christ, His Spirit, His character, colors everything; it is the warp and the woof, the very texture of our entire being” (The Faith I Live By, p. 150, 1958). When we grasp this divine illumination, gratitude fills our hearts, but what foundational truth makes God’s love so vividly clear through Christ’s sustaining presence?
CHRIST SOURCE OF LIFE!
Christ’s role as the sustainer of all life is foundational to understanding God’s love. Paul writes, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Sr. White elaborates, “Every breath, every pulsation of the heart, is an evidence of the care of Him in whom we live” (Education, p. 131). These truths affirm that God is not distant but intimately involved in our lives. His care extends beyond physical sustenance to spiritual renewal, calling us to reflect His light in our daily actions. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16, KJV). “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10, KJV). “Jesus is the source of all true growth” (Education, p. 106, 1903). “Christ is the source of all true life and power” (The Desire of Ages, p. 324, 1898). When we recognize Christ as the source of life, gratitude compels us to share His love with others, but how does this light mirror God’s redemptive affection?
GOD’S LOVE THROUGH LIGHT!
The light of Christ is a direct reflection of God’s love, revealing His desire for redemption and healing. Sr. White writes, “Through Christ every human being has life, so also through Him every soul receives some ray of divine light” (Education, p. 29). This light shines even in our darkest moments, offering hope and guidance. When despair clouds our vision, Christ’s light restores clarity, demonstrating God’s active care for humanity. “That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (John 1:9, KJV). “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee” (Isaiah 60:1, KJV). “The love of Christ will animate the believer with new life” (The Desire of Ages, p. 280, 1898). “In the matchless gift of His Son, God has encircled the whole world with an atmosphere of grace as real as the air which circulates around the globe” (Steps to Christ, p. 68, 1892). As recipients of this love, we are called to be vessels of His light, spreading encouragement and hope to those around us, but how does this acknowledgment inspire heartfelt worship?
LOVE REFLECTED IN WORSHIP!
Acknowledging Christ as the source of life and light leads us to worship. Psalm 29:2 instructs, “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Sr. White echoes this sentiment: “True worship consists in working together with Christ…” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p. 456). Worship is more than rituals; it is heartfelt surrender that aligns us with God’s will. “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker” (Psalm 95:6, KJV). “And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it” (Psalm 90:17, KJV). “True worship is the recognition of God and all His power and glory in His wonderful works of creation and in His dealings with man” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 336, 1890). “The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him” (John 4:23, KJV). As we worship in humility and gratitude, we experience transformation, allowing Christ’s light to shine more fully through us, but how does this light propel us toward serving others?
SERVING IN CHRIST’S LIGHT!
Christ’s light not only transforms us but also calls us to serve others. Galatians 6:2 commands, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Sr. White emphasizes, “Christ is the ‘Light, which lighteth every man…’” (Education, p. 29). Service, whether through acts of kindness, charity, or simply listening to others, glorifies God and fulfills our mission as His followers. “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40, KJV). “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” (Philippians 2:3, KJV). “The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall” (Education, p. 57, 1903). “Those who labor for the good of others are working in union with the heavenly angels. They have their constant companionship, their constant support” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p. 307, 1901). By reflecting His light, we become instruments of grace, drawing others closer to Him, but how does God’s love form the core of these guiding principles?
GOD’S LOVE AT THE HEART!
God’s love shines brightest through Christ’s sustaining care. As Sr. White reflects, “Every breath… is an evidence of the care of Him in whom we live” (Education, p. 131). This care is not limited to physical life but encompasses spiritual renewal, offering redemption to all. The Apostle John affirms, “That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (John 1:9). These truths reveal that God’s love is active and restorative, inviting us to experience His peace and share it with others. “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee” (Isaiah 54:10, KJV). “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, KJV). “The love that Christ diffuses through the whole being is a vitalizing power. Every vital part—the brain, the heart, the nerves—it touches with healing” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 115, 1905). “The love which Christ diffuses through the whole being is a life-giving power” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 115, 1905). His love compels us to worship, serve, and live in unity with His purpose, but how can we embody this light in a darkened world?
LIVING AS LIGHTS ALOFT!
As followers of Christ, we are called to embody His light in a world that often feels engulfed by darkness. Matthew 5:16 reminds us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” This mission is not just personal but communal. Together, we reflect God’s love, offering hope and direction to those in need. “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14, KJV). “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8, KJV). “The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love. The children of God are to manifest His glory” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 415, 1900). “Workers for Christ are never to think, much less to speak, of failure in their work. The Lord Jesus is our efficiency in all things; His Spirit is to be our inspiration; and as we place ourselves in His hands, to be channels of light, our means of doing good will never be exhausted” (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p. 396, 1901). By living as lights, we fulfill our purpose, glorify God, and invite others to experience the transformative power of His love.
