“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10, KJV).
ABSTRACT
Jesus Christ, as Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, reveals the boundless love of God, inviting humanity into a transformative relationship with the Divine. This article examines His roles through Scripture and inspired writings, emphasizing His eternal unity with the Father, His creative power, sustaining grace, and redemptive sacrifice. Each role underscores God’s love, calling us to respond with worship, service, and compassion, reflecting His character in our lives and communities.
CHRIST: THE ETERNAL WORD
Jesus Christ stands as the cornerstone of faith, embodying God’s eternal love, mercy, and divine purpose. The Bible declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1–2, KJV). This eternal unity between Jesus and the Father reveals profound truths about His divinity and mission. Sr. White reinforces this, stating, “From all eternity Christ was united with the Father… He was still one with God” (Selected Messages, bk. 1, p. 228, 1958). This unity affirms Christ’s divine nature, establishing Him as the foundation of our faith. Further, the Scriptures confirm, “The same was in the beginning with God” (John 1:2, KJV) and “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person” (Hebrews 1:3, KJV). Sr. White adds, “Christ is the pre-existent, self-existent Son of God” (Signs of the Times, p. 3, 1898). She also writes, “In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, underived” (The Desire of Ages, p. 530, 1898). How can we grasp the depth of this divine connection? This truth invites us to explore Christ’s roles, revealing God’s love in action.
JESUS: THE MIGHTY CREATOR
Jesus, as the Creator, reflects the perfection and love of God. Scripture proclaims, “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3, KJV). Paul adds in Colossians 1:16–17, “All things were created by him, and for him… and by him all things consist.” Sr. White echoes this truth: “He filled the earth with beauty” (The Desire of Ages, p. 20, 1898). Creation reflects God’s love and invites worship through awe and gratitude. The Bible further states, “Thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands” (Psalm 92:4, KJV) and “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” (Psalm 19:1, KJV). Sr. White affirms, “The hand that sustains the worlds in space… is the hand that was nailed to the cross” (Education, p. 132, 1903). She also notes, “Nature speaks to their senses, declaring that there is a living God, the Creator” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 116, 1890). How often do we pause to marvel at the intricacy of nature, the rhythm of the seasons, or the delicate balance of life? Each detail testifies to God’s care and creativity, reminding us that we are cherished by a Designer who made us in His image.
CHRIST: THE SUSTAINER OF ALL
Beyond creation, Jesus upholds the universe by His power. The Psalmist declares, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:9, KJV). Similarly, Hebrews 1:3 states, “Upholding all things by the word of his power.” Sr. White affirms, “It was Christ that spread the heavens” (The Desire of Ages, p. 20, 1898). This sustaining power ensures life’s continuity and provides a foundation for our faith. Scripture also confirms, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6, KJV) and “The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all” (Psalm 103:19, KJV). Sr. White writes, “All things, material or spiritual, stand under the supervision of God” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 417, 1905). She further states, “The same power that upholds nature is working also in man” (Education, p. 99, 1903). When life feels uncertain, do we remember that Christ holds all things together? His sustaining grace gives us strength, even in chaos, guiding us to peace and purpose.
JESUS: OUR REDEEMER AND SAVIOR
Jesus’ mission as Redeemer underscores God’s ultimate act of love. John 3:16 affirms, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.” Sr. White expands, “Christ was treated as we deserve, that we might be treated as He deserves” (The Desire of Ages, p. 25, 1898). His sacrifice bridges the gap sin created, offering forgiveness and restoration. Isaiah 9:6 calls Him “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God.” This promise is fulfilled in Christ’s incarnation, as Matthew 1:23 declares, “They shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” The Bible also states, “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5, KJV) and “The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6, KJV). Sr. White notes, “The Son of God took upon Him our nature” (Selected Messages, bk. 1, p. 252, 1958). She also writes, “Christ’s death was to be the convincing, everlasting argument that God loves us” (Review and Herald, p. 4, 1894). How can we respond to such a sacrifice? Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus demonstrates God’s relentless pursuit of humanity, even in our brokenness.
MIRRORING GOD’S LOVE IN LIFE
God’s love shines through Jesus’ roles, calling us to reflect His grace. As Sr. White writes, “To this sin-darkened earth He came to reveal the light of God’s love” (The Desire of Ages, p. 19, 1898). This revelation urges us to respond with humility and obedience. For example, Christ’s love motivates us to share light in a darkened world. Acts 17:28 reminds us, “In him we live, and move, and have our being.” The Bible further declares, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father” (Matthew 5:16, KJV) and “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35, KJV). Sr. White states, “The love of Christ constrains us to live for Him” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 87, 1882). She also affirms, “Every true disciple is born into the kingdom of God as a missionary” (The Desire of Ages, p. 195, 1898). How can we embody this love in our daily actions? By loving one another, we reflect His divine character, spreading hope and compassion.
WORSHIP: HONORING THE DIVINE
True worship stems from recognizing Christ’s roles as Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer. Psalm 95:6 invites us, “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Sr. White emphasizes, “True worship aligns our lives with His purpose, calling us to approach Him with humility and gratitude” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, p. 664, 1871). Worship is not only an act of praise but a lifestyle of devotion. Scripture also states, “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2, KJV) and “Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy” (Psalm 99:5, KJV). Sr. White writes, “Worship Him who made heaven and earth” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 336, 1890). She further notes, “True reverence for God is inspired by a sense of His infinite greatness” (Education, p. 28, 1903). In our communities, are we fostering environments of reverence and unity? By embracing Christ’s example, we honor God and inspire others to seek Him.
EMBRACING CHRIST’S CALL TO FAITH
Jesus, the Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, embodies God’s infinite love and mercy. Through His life and sacrifice, He reveals the depth of God’s commitment to restoring humanity. As individuals and communities, we are called to respond with worship, service, and love, reflecting His character. Sr. White reminds us, “Manifest faith in our Lord Jesus Christ” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, p. 664, 1871). The Bible summarizes this truth: “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10, KJV). Together, we can shine as lights in a world longing for hope and restoration.
